INTRODUCTION.
LEADERSHIP
Every sectors have leaders and the Nigerian health system is not an exception of leadership as there are persons who have attempted to define the concept .Hence there may be no agreed universal definitions. Hemphill & Loons, 1975 defines leadership as the behavior of an individual directing the activities of a group towards a shared goal. Borra , 2002 defines leadership as the ability to inspire and guide others towards building and achieving a shared vision. Warren G. Bennis defines leadership as the capacity to translate vision into reality. Ranch and Belling, 1984 define leadership as the process of influencing the activities of an organized group towards goal achievement, while Prentice, 1961 defines leadership as the accomplishment of a goal through the direction of human assistants. Druker Foundation , 1996 says the only definition of a leader is someone who has followers.
MANAGEMENT
A good management brings order and consistency. And management can be defined as “getting the job done through people “, this assume that no individual no matter how energetic , can get all things done. Also a manager can be defined as a person who through guidance leadership, encouragement and motivation makes his work team get the job done. Therefore a person who does not see himself as a part of a team cannot achieve much because the more the cooperation among the team members, the better the results achieved.
