Street Photography through history
Has Street Photography changed through history? The objective of this essay is to explore this question through comparing and analyzing Street Photography of differing eras in history.
From the very beginning of Photography in its infancy through to modern Photography with a focus centering upon Street Photography. Through this approach the researcher will assess the impact of these variations and evaluate the likelihood of the influence caused by these artists on the overall Street Photography movement.
This essay will concentrate on three artists Nicephore Niepce (1765 – 1833), Alfred Stieglitz (1864 – 1946) and Vivian Maier (1926 – 2009). By choosing these three historically important photographers this essay will adequately cover its objective.
Visual mediums will be utilized to illustrate contrasting and/or similar techniques, technical advancements, ideas and visions employed by the artists. An appendix including sources for all images has been included at the end of this essay, along with appropriate APA referencing.
Nicephore Niepce
To initiate this essay it makes sense to begin with the inventor of the Photography craft. Nicephore Niepce who was a French scientist and inventor created the earliest surviving photograph in 1826 using a technique he developed called heliography. This legendary photo is titled “The View from the Window at Le Gras”. Featuring buildings and the landscape as seen from a window of his estate.
