Structure Of The Bet By Sara Constantakis
For this discussion; the short story that I have selected is “The Bet” by Anton Chekov and done a research with our UoPeople Library and glad that I’ve found it from the “Short Stories for Students” by Sara Constantakis. It has very useful structure about the story and its author’s biography, plot summary, characters, themes, styles, and critical overview. There are diverse criticisms and comparisons, which honestly some of them they’re too deep for me to comprehend.
The story “is intriguing and highly compelling not by what is written, but by what is intentionally omitted” (Constantakis, 2011, p.2).
And per Betts (as cited in Constantakis, 2011, p.11) the story did not state who won the stake and readers end up guessing, with a thrill
without final closure between the banker and lawyer, both just wasted their existence for the unusual agreement.
