The goal is specific as my objective is clearly stated and defined on what I want to learn, increasing my nursing knowledge to respond related to laboring mothers in emergency situations with confidence. It is measurable because by responding to emergency situations with little to no direction allows for a quantifiable measurement through my personal self-reflection and the feedback of staff. My goal is attainable and relevant because it applies directly to my current role as a labour and delivery nurse where as mentioned by CNO entry-to-practice standards, domain knowledge-based practice, as a nurse you are “proactively seeking new information, knowledge and best practice for use in the provision of nursing care”(CNO,20??). Lastly, this goal is time-limited, as I have stated a clear deadline as to when I intend to complete my goal. This deadline is the completion of my pregrad placement where it allows for sufficient time to build on my confidence level and nursing knowledge related to this field, and allow me to enter the nursing profession with increased experience and confidence. Becoming vigilant in self-reflection and life-long learning using tools such as, Quality Assurance programs in turn does this. Through this increased nursing competency level is increased. Completing this assignment, I am able to identify and learn from personal self-reflection, identifying learning needs and goals, and thus, contributing to my increase confidence level in future nursing settings as I become a novice
