When I evaluate to determine whether a resource is a valuable source of information I look for currency and/or history of resource; identify the author’s authority; and informational bias.…
In summary, the paper by the unknown author and by Brandon Jorritsma seems similar. But, the use of sources throughout the writing and their effects is what makes the two writings different. The use of sources adds evidence and support to writing while not using sources concludes that the information present is not reliable. Reliable sources are applied by quoting and paraphrasing. Furthermore, sources have the power to enhance writing by making it more persuasive in contrast to sources not enhancing writing by making it less…
Historians often use other historians research as examples and evidence within their work. Citing sources provide clarity on a topic, or further supports the historian’s claim. However, there are a plethora of calculations and processes one must go through to determine the validity of a single source. The author’s background, citations, content of the material, and objectivity are all items that must be considered when determining whether a source is relevant and a good source to cite.…
An example of a scholarly sourced used is a story written in Newsweek. Karnasiewicz writes, “Newsweek joined the fray with an eight-page cover story by Peg Tyre, breathlessly captioned “The Boy Crisis,” and laden with oversize color photos of doleful white boys, seemingly adrift in a sea of competent, well-adjusted girls”. (910) another example of how Karnasiewicz used credible evidence is using a quote from Tom Mortenson. Karnasiewicz writes “Mortenson, senior policy analyst at the Pell Institute for Opportunity in Higher Education and creator of the Postsecondary Education Opportunity Newsletter, agrees that a better qualified female may not have been accepted into a school because the admission office may have been trying to even the ratio”. (910). The author continues by quoting Mortenson, “ I know [affirmative action for boys] is being practiced, especially on liberal arts campuses where the gap is biggest because I’ve had administrators tell me so”…

Losing someone close to you can feel like losing a part of yourself. A piece of you goes missing. Imagine living your life with them there and then having them ripped away from you. It really is as horrible as it sounds. In “The Unmothered” Ruth Margalit explains her experience of losing her mother to cancer. She tells about what it’s like on certain days of the year such as, her mother’s birthday, the day her mother was diagnosed with cancer, and her parent’s anniversary. She also gives some memories she has of her mother and what her mother taught her. I, like Ruth, also lost my mom to cancer so I was really able to connect with this article. I also dread certain days of the year but unlike the author I see my mother’s death in a very different way.…
The writer wrote this essay to warn fellow college students the dangers of using Wikipedia as an academic research source. No student wants to go through hours of studying and research for a paper and end up using incorrect information. Knowing this, the writer starts by discrediting Wikipedia…
Monuments are an irreplaceable way in which individuals throughout the world commemorate the triumphs of heroes or disastrous events. When devising a monument, individuals often disregard three critical factors; the location, size and material of the monument. Location, size and material must be utilized in preciseness to obtain optimum success.…
In reading the three articles, “From Degrading to De-Grading” by Alfie Kohn, “And Now He is Nothing” by Michael Specter and “Dilma Rousseff” by Simon Romero my impressions of each article varies from one of unbelief to affirmation. As compelling as the ideology of not grading is, the practicality of implementation would be enormous. The assumption that Lance Armstrong is now nothing can it really be so easily dismissed? Finally, Dilma Rousseff rise to power as a right of previous wrongs remains to be seen; each writer conveying a very persuasive argument.…

Will go the extra mile and find the most reliable and credible source or will you just find the more convenient source such as…
There are reports of abuse in nursing homes every year. There are many types of abuse reported as well. Even though there are many reports there are also many cases that are not reported. Elderly being abused puts them in an even more vulnerable position that what they were in. They now have to fear for their lives from the people who should be taking care of them. With reported cases and non-reported cases the abuser is rarely punished which makes the situation much worse. Elder abuse in nursing homes has grown at an alarming rate and not being reported and I firmly believe that the punishment should be increased for these abusers such as licenses being pulled and state stepping in more to investigate.…
Since the discovery of the “New World” many European super powers looked to colonize and expand their riches and trading powers throughout this new found continent. The British took great advantage of this with controlling everything on the east of the Appalachian Mountains and sea routes across the Atlantic. Upon their arrival the British had to encounter with many endeavors from the climate, geography, and native interaction until they reached a stable and powerful colonial rule. The American colonies are one of the greater and most successful of other colonies up to date.…
