The Tell Tale Heart is a short story written in 1843 by Edgar Allen Poe. This story starts with the narrator telling us how he is not mad, merely nervous, but not crazy. In this story he explains that he loves and takes care of this old man. He has nothing against this old man, in fact he cares for him, but he hates the old man’s “vulture-eye”. The narrator hates the eye and decides to kill the old man to be free of it. He devises a plan to be free of the eye, the narrator goes to the old man's room every night at 12am, for seven days. On the eighth night, he went into the bedroom, then quickly drags the old man, off the bed, and then pulls the bed on top of the man. The narrator then waits till he hears the old man’s heart stop. Once this happens the narrator takes his body, chops it up, and hides it underneath the floorboards in the old man’s room.…

Before taking this English 101-A course, I had a particular perception when it came to writing essays and English language. In High school, I was a really lazy student. As lazy as they can come, I was that times 10. For as long as I can remember I had always coasted through Elementary school and Middle school with really great grades. I would take honor roll courses and get straight A’s and 1 B almost every year. So by the time I had reached my first year in High school 9th grade, I decided I didn’t have to pay attention to anything or anybody because I thought I was so smart. I literally attended school from 9th grade to 12th grade to pass. I thought it would serve no higher purpose to me other than a time to get in some solid nap time, get…

Education. Why is it such an easy word to understand but such a tedious task to accomplish? We come from a society that hands out education easily, however that education comes with a price. Jean Anyon explains this process through her research in From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work. Anyon dissects the socio-economic class that determines the types of instruction students receive. Through her research one can compare her findings to Mike Rose’s narrative, I Just Wanna Be Average, to be true and insightful. Rose speaks of his high school life as an underachiever as well as his ability to break free from the mold that he was once placed in. Comprehending both Anyon and Rose, I, myself, have come face to face with the challenges of teachers and the education system. By analyzing Anyon’s findings to Rose and my own personal experience can one consider the socio-economic class true and is it possible for one to break free from their educational binding?…

I am on the boat with my family; myself, parents, brother and sister. Everything that I was taught up until this very moment I had to do on my own. Looking out into the deep, crystal clear ocean water, I know it was finally going to be the “make it or break it” point, the question I was asking myself was am I really doing this?, and thinking over and over again, I have always been deathly afraid of water. Scuba diving….the word running through my mind, all the possibilities of having issues with my air, with my partner, with myself.…

Communication is a tool with which we exercise our influence on others, bring out changes in our and others’ attitudes, motivate the people around us and establish and maintain relationships with them. Communication forms a major part of our life and is a social activity. This social activity is pursued verbally through speech, reading and writing or non-verbally through body language. The focus of this report will be mainly on written side of communication. The written mode is significant part of communication, as it offers great advantages, especially in an urban environment, where it can convey its message more effectively than other modes such as oral or physical (body language) through the use of eye catching banners and shady graffiti art to bold historical quotes and digitalised advertising. It can be said that written mode is an innovative activity, as it generally requires more planning and preparations, is static and permanent and generally more valued in society (cont. in discussion). Our research in this field was unfortunately very limited due to the time frame provided; however, we did obtain a variety of results (Road signs, memorial plaques, advertisement billboards .etc.) and will be focusing on these in our report. (Please Note that we did not record any examples of spoken language therefore this report will only focus on the written side of communication).…

Mark schemes are prepared by the Principal Examiner and considered, together with the relevant questions, by a panel of subject teachers. This mark scheme includes any amendments made at the standardisation meeting attended by all examiners and is the scheme which was used by them in this examination. The standardisation meeting ensures that the mark scheme covers the same, correct way. As preparation for the standardisation meeting each examiner analyses a discussed at the meeting and legislated for. If, after this meeting, examiners encounter unusual answers which have not been discussed at the meeting they are required to refer these to the Principal Examiner. It must be stressed that a mark scheme is a working document, in many cases further developed reactions to a particular paper. Assumptions about principles of assessment remain constant, details will change, depending on the content of a particular examination paper.…
