Schools of Magic
All magic in the world of Legynds is grouped into schools. Each School is linked by a theme; something that school excels and specializes in. Some Schools are broadly similar, or have spells within them that closely duplicate the effects of other Schools’ spells, but each School is unique.
Lists
Aside from the spells and effects a School enables a student to study, a School also shapes the course of study the student will pursue as he or she branches out into other Schools. All beginning Mages select a single school as their first ‘List’. This first School, or List, is the mage’s starting point for his or her further study of Magic in the world of Legynds. The three schools in the center of the Magic Diagram are called the Inner Lists. The six schools that form a ring which connect to these are called the Outer Lists.
Laws of Magic
Laws of Magic are powerful lists that represents broad magical concepts fundamental to the workings of Mythir. The spells and abilities available to Mage characters that attain proficiency in Magical Laws are individually more powerful than those of other Magical Schools. All Laws of Magic are ‘supported’ by, or connected to, the lesser Schools through The Magic Diagram. To Learn a Law of Magic, a mage need only to have knowledge in one of the two supporting Schools for that Magical Law. Once a character has begun study of a Magical Law, no other Law of Magic may also be studied as the mixture of the Laws of Magic have been known to be very dangerous. To begin learning spells in a second Law of Magic may only be done with a Circle of Arcane Binding Ritual. (See Rituals text)
