Jane Ngo I am Jane. I’m a 9th grader at North Garland, who knows that life shouldn’t be taken for granted. I know that my family will always be there for me. I know that friends come and go, and that I should enjoy the time we have until they’re gone. My mandala represents what I am at this point and time in my life. The mandala tells little aspects of my life that I think are truly important to me; family, friends, hope, faith, and love. My mandala has a picture of a huge crooked tree, it represents my life and how I’ve grown. The branches are the lessons I learn from the obstacles I get through each day of my life, for each obstacle I grow a branch; I learn something new every day. On the trunk of the tree is an arrow, representing the scar I have on my leg. It doesn’t really have a story behind it but people stare and ask about it all the time, wondering why it’s there. The tree is crooked because it refuses to be pushed to the ground by society and no matter how crooked the tree is, it is still a tree. Just like people, no matter what you look like or how different you think you are, you are still a person living on the same world, breathing the same air, and drinking the same water. At the root of the tree is my family, which includes my two sisters, my mom and my dad, they are what give me the nutrients to grow and be stronger each and every day. That brings me to the Chinese letters that say hope, faith, and love, these are the nutrients that my family give me to be stronger. Without my family, I wouldn’t be able to grow or overcome obstacles every day. I would’ve given up without my roots. Near my family, are my friends, they make me feel like no matter what happens they’ll be there for me. They are flowers; flowers give color to the tree, like a smile. They’re there to tell me not to give up and to smile through whatever happens. Some come and go, but those that stay are truly special
