at times policy is not always convenient when it comes to bedside care and I will discover while caring for patients in that atmosphere. Walking away, I remember thinking how much I disagreed with her and knowing it is always best to follow policy.
The next day, the nurse gave medications to the same patient, popped a pill out of the medication bubble package and placed it inside her pocket. I proceeded to notify the nursing supervisor of what I witnessed. The nursing supervisor exclaimed the nurse worked in the facility for many years, expressed how disappointing to see a fellow co-worker attempt to discredit a nurse’s credibility and maybe I should think about working elsewhere. Unfortunately, I allowed intimidation to get the best of me and vacated the position. One year later, I was informed by a fellow employee of the company the nurse was fired for stealing narcotics. At one point, I regretted exposing the incident, but I knew I knew within my heart I did the right thing which continues to encourage me to maintain giving ethically right care.
