The Hidden Messages
Have you ever wondered why you have random urges to do things or feel an out of place emotion? Why you would have a sudden urge to eat, sleep, or do something you normally wouldn’t do? This could possibly be subliminal messaging. Subliminal messaging is when your mind picks up things you would not notice through the conscious mind but through the unconscious. The conscious mind is all the information that we are aware that is being stored in our minds. Such as all the memories that you remember. (Cherry.) The unconscious mind is much more vast, it picks up what our eyes sees but don’t register it right away. (Cherry.) Sigmund Freud compares it to a glacier you see the very tip of it and that is the conscious mind but the much larger part of the glacier is submerged under the water that is the unconscious mind. (Mcleod.) These messages you pick up with your unconscious mind are called subliminal stimuli. Stimuli are things around us that we would pick up with our senses. Subliminal messages are most commonly seen in advertisement but it can be found in many other places such as music, movies, and even books. They all have a goal that they try to make their audience reach. An emotion, an idea, or even a standing point on a topic. Subliminal messaging is a way for the user of these messages to get a target to do what they want. To get them to follow down the path they chose.
There are many types of subliminal messaging, a commonly used one is back masking. It is the process of having a song or phrase played backwards to reveal an alternative message form what the song was intended for play forwards. Some popular artists such Pink Floyd and Weird Al have used back masking to hide secret messages in their songs. Back masking can be used to get listener to think they want to use drugs like marijuana such as Queens “Another one bites the dust”. (Cruez.)Another popular belief is that back
