Being honest is one of the most important character traits that every human being should strive to acquire. Since honesty builds trustful relationships between people, possessing this quality is especially important for a therapist. If people know you are honest they will put their full trust and faith in you. Eventually they will be willing to tell you more than you ever expected to learn. It is important that one can trust his/her therapist, and more importantly, that the therapist is someone who is worthy of the trust that is given to him/her. I believe that I am an honest, frank, respectful, and sincere individual who listens well to others, and can be counted on. Realizing that often the truth can be very painful, I am always careful about being honest without being hurtful in any way. Whenever I try to console a friend, or intervene in a particular situation, my goal is to avoid stirring up ill feelings and bringing anyone down. Instead, I try to be open and honest, while doing my best to offer as much friendly advice and moral support, without being bias and pessimistic. It is important to be honest, authentic, and sincere in order to build productive relationships not just with your patient, but with all other members of society in general. Therapy is a very personal and private relationship and I am thankful that I grew up in a household where honesty is always the best policy.
