A worldwide epidemic that is affecting our society today is mental illness. It is prevalent in many countries such as China, Russia, Africa, South America, and the United States. Mental illness is influencing the lives of men, women, and children. Although there are many victims across the world, people do not truly yet understand many of these disorders that fall under the umbrella of mental illness. Amongst these individual’s there is a desperate need and yearning to alleviate the emotional, psychological, and physical pain that comes from having a mental illness. In her own words, “I want to just die because it is a constant battle every day to find a reason to live” (Jenkins, November 7, 2014). After discussing intervention plans with her, it was decided that she would best benefit from enrolling in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Dialectical Behavior Therapy has been proven to help reduce self-harm and suicidal behaviors (Rathus & Miller, 2002). She knows that if she commits suicide, it will affect her loved ones 2. She understands that she is responsible for her situation. Unfortunately, this knowledge does not exempt her from continuing to be depressed or from having suicidal ideations/attempts on a daily basis. Although, she is appreciative of the new referrals, she does not expect her life to change. We felt that if we used this Solution-Focused Brief Treatment; and identified other strengths, it would teach her more coping skills and would stop her from being so susceptible to maladaptive thoughts and behaviors. This may help her ideations of suicide become less frequent, thus preventing her from making attempts. Also, we believed that by asking her the miracle question would not only motivate her to complete her goals, but would give her a sense of hope as
