First and foremost, you must obtain your Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration. From that point, you may want to highly consider furthering your education to Graduate studies as well. Majority of the positions available for a Healthcare Administrator require that you at least have a Master’s degree or better (Ph.D., M.D., J.D. (law degree)). You also would have to get certified through American Health Information Management Association to be certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator if I may add. And depending on the career path you decide to take being a Healthcare Administrator you may need to receive a license before practicing in certain locations. For an example, if you would want to become a nursing home administrator, you would first have to receive licensure through SC Board of Long Term Health Care Administrators before practicing in your desired field. Some of the required skills for the field are critical thinking, active listening and learning, reading comprehension, time management, and judgement/decision-making just to name a few. You also must have knowledge in administrative management, customer and personal experience, clerical, and economics/accounting. Your personality also must be in sync with your career path as well. You must always have an attitude of determination. You must also have a severe passion for helping people and making a difference. After previously testing my personality traits and skills in the previous unit, I was pleased to learn new things about myself. My personality traits are as followed: realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. Once I got a complete understanding of what these meant, I did notice a few areas that may need improving as far as my personality goes. Being social in this field is a great thing, because being a Healthcare Administrator requires you to be in constant contact with staff, medical personnel, and other officials’ majority of your day. Being realistic is a plus as well, you want facts. You want to be able to relay information that is 100% accurate always. As far as my other personality traits go, they are wonderful to have but I do not see them benefiting me in this
