Critical Response Paper
Lets Be Cops
In the Movie, Lets Be Cops Damon Wayne Jr. and Jake Johnson are two best friends who haven’t gone far in their lives. Damon Wayne Jr is a ‘big time” video game producer and Jake Johnson is a washed up football player who could of gone somewhere “if he didn’t get injured.” I put this in quotes because through the movie it is his excuse for not doing anything in his life. It all starts when Jake Johnson confuses a masquerade ball party for a costume party and him and Damon Wayne Jr. show up in cop uniforms. It starts as a joke until Jake Johnson purchases a cop car off of EBay and then they start to impersonate the law. Overall I Believe this film is very hilarious and if you’re into comedy movies I highly suggest that you …show more content…
go and seem this film.
I can’t say that I personally relate to the characters in the film, but I can say that I enjoy how they go about making their decisions. Their decision making is very spontaneous and it usually ends up being the wrong decision until the end of the film (that’s when they always make the right decision, right?) Damon isn’t really on board for the whole impersonating cop idea until he gets fed up with his work. In the beginning of the film Damon is working on his new video game titled “Police Men.” When he goes to present his game to the “video game counsel” it immediately get down. He doesn’t even get a chance to explain or describe the concept of the game. This is what led him to join Jake Johnson in impersonating a cop.
This whole impersonating a cop starts as a joke, of course who would want to get caught impersonating the law? That’s a federal crime and least a 3 year in a federal penitentiary. Although it’s important that you know you can purchase a former cop car and drive it, that’s completely legal. You can even have all of the accessories cop lights (red and blues), a cage in the back seat, even bars on the windows. The one thing that you can’t have is a police sticker and or emblem on your car. But it’s also important that you know that you can’t flip those lights on in a public place. You also can’t flip the lights on to pull someone over or pass through traffic. Jake Johnson does his research and Damon Wayne Jr. isn’t down for the idea, but guess what? They end up going through with it because they haven’t gotten caught.
As the movie progresses they start small, and what I mean by that is they only do things such as pick be up for shoplifting and texting and driving. Although these are both serious offense they are considered small when it comes to robbery/murder/domestic abuse. The First major call they get is a “domestic abuse” call between three ladies. This scene is actually very funny. It consists of three female roommates, one trying to stop the other two from fighting over a boy (typical right?) Although Damon Wayne and Jake Johnson are cops, they both get man handled by these woman. After this they wanted to get more action, they were pumped up on adrenaline and they started digging themselves a hole that they couldn’t get out of. The next situation they encounter is a robbery. Although during the situation Damon Wayne Jr. is really skeptical about the whole thing and lets one of the bad guys get away. To make things worse is is tackled by a massive sumo wrestler who just so happens to be naked. This scene was an absolute gut buster and I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves comedy just because of this on scene alone.
Now on to the most important scenes in the movie which includes Jake Johnson and Damon Wayne Jr and a drug cartel.
Although this drug cartel aren’t exactly moving just drugs. This is where the plot in the story gets a little twisted. The top police investigator just so happens to be working with the cartel, so they always had the police on their side. Jake Johnson had enough of that and started setting up stings and operations to gather evidence to bust the cartel. Keep in mind Damon Wayne Jr’s. Video game “Police Man” is about to come to life. All of his ideas and events are about to go into action. They figure out that the cartel is buying illegal weapons from the police (which have been confiscated) so the traces on them are clean. They ended up turning around and selling those as a profit to fuel their drug business. The final scene is a huge gun fight and their first serious case as cops. At the end instead of turning themselves in for impersonating a cop they are recognized as heroes. Lastly Damon Wayne Jr finally gets his video game into action and has a successful career doing that, and the “washed up” football player goes to police academy and becomes a real
cop!
In conclusion I would really recommend this movie to everyone who enjoys comedies. The overall plot and execution by the actors is phenomenal in my opinion. As I said before, this movie was entertaining and it has your attention the whole time. I absolutely love it and I can promise that you will love the movie as well. This film is the one that you’re willing to pay to see it twice in theatres. Although the only thing I would say is it is very explicit in some scenes so it’s probably not a good film for the young ones. After reading this I hope you make the decision to go and see the film and enjoy a night of gut busting laughs!
