In any of the model of democracy in which the public has a vote, an informed public is imperative to the functionality of the government. Our current political atmosphere does not reflect these conditions as people are willfully blind to the intricacies of the political machine. As such, I find it hard to think that are government truly functions democratically. Democracies are supposed to enact the will of the people, but if the people don’t know what they want, how could politicians be able represent that? I do not think that they can be representative of a populous that decides to be in the dark. This leads to the government having a sense of autonomy and separates itself from the people. I am not sure that the general public would be behind tax-breaks for big businesses or bailing out banks. The illusion that people fall for is that they are constructive or virtuous when they vote, but in reality they are doing more harm than good. If voting was not popular, then the perceived notion of what people truly want would not be so muddled. The amount of “I Voted” sticker that I see around do not comfort me, but instead unnerve me because of the distance that most feel from what is really going
