In this essay about the care required for a patient with Alzheimer’s disease, the essay will discuss of the holistic care needs for the patient, holistic care is total care of a patient which means caring for everything the patients emotional, physical, spiritual, social and psychological needs. Caring for an Alzheimer’s patient is it important that they are always reassured and feel secured, when caring for an Alzheimer’s patient finding out the patients normal routines and habits are important as there is different stages of the disease and to see if the patient has the ability to cope with activities of Daily living and how independent they are. Recommendations
I would recommend that patient suffering with Alzheimer’s should have more activity times as it helps to slow the process of the disease. I would recommend that washing, showering, eating are done at the same times everyday to avoid any confusions for the patient. I would recommend that on an Alzheimer’s unit that if possible the same kind of staff are on to try firmiluralize faces to patients.
Reflection
On doing this assignment it has given me great knowledge on how to care for an Alzheimer’s patient. The disease can last for such a long time, it must be very hard for not only the patients because of frustration but also the patients families to see loved ones not remember their face anymore. To have empathy towards both patient and the patients family as we never really know how much someone means to someone until were in their shoes. I really enjoyed doing this assignment and finding out information, the websites were very helpful and also class
