Chhaupadi is a combination of two local words “Chhau” and “Padi” used in the Raute dialect of Achham district in the far western part of Nepal. “Chhau” means menstruation and “Padi” means a woman likewise “Pratha” means practice (Raul & Tandon, 2011). Chhaupadi practice is one of the taboos concerning menstruation in Hindu tradition that relates to secretions associated with menstruation and childbirth (Desslierres, 2013). This practice still exists in many rural part of Nepal (Kadariya & Aro, 2015).

Nobody should be treated as second class citizen based on gender. Women should be given equally autonomy, power and freedom like men (Bhadra and Thapa, 2007). The government should invest more on girl’s education. The education institution should be easily accessible by the girls of rural area through which we can empower them and increase their role in decision making.
School teachers, professor, health practitioner, active and influential individuals of the particular community along with social workers should come together to create mass awareness and education at the community level (Kadariya and Aro, 2015). It would be effective if we could communicate with younger generation rather than older people in the communities that follow myths related to menstrual- hygiene (The Guardian , 2016) that have been practiced from generation to generation. We can provide proper guidance and aware them where needed so that they can make the decision whether or not to practice it, so that essentially women have choice and this choice shall empower her. Girls and women of the affected area should start a social movement against Chhaupadi practice. They should raise voice and advocate for the right of women as it is her body, her choice and her right.
