The basic plot of the story is, the Spook and Tom head to Priestown to attend to some unfinished business.
Under the cathedral deep in the catacombs, lurks a creature so powerful if it were to be released it would put the whole County in grave danger, that creature is the Bane. As Tom and the the Spook get ready for their toughest task yet, the Quisitor arrives, which makes their already near impossible task even more difficult. Will the duo be able to defeat the Bane or will they end up like the last time Old Gregory faced the Bane, when he almost died.
My favorite part of the book was the final fight scene with the Bane. They tricked the Bane into materializing in front of them which gave Old Gregory a chance to throw his silver chain and hit the Bane in the shoulder, which sends the Bane crashing down to the ground with an agonizing cry, as silver is the weakness to most creatures of the dark. As the Spook approaches the fallen beast to deliver the final blow, the Bane suddenly disappears, as all the candles in the room go out. A few moments later there is a loud crack as the Spook flies backward and his staff snapped in two. Tom runs over to see if Old Gregory is alright to find him out cold. Then the Bane materializes in front of Tom once more, this time he's not going anywhere as Tom brings the silver blade down into the heart of the beast, ending it once and for all.
I really enjoyed the book, I would give it a 9 out of 10. It's not the best book i've ever read but it's one of the best. I really liked the book because it was, adventurous, entertaining, and creepy which made for a very interesting story. Overall I would definitely recommend it.
