Who Is Abigail Williams Evil In The Crucible
The Devil's Finger
"All is fair in love and war"-proverb. People will do anything for love. There is no act that is too bad or too good when going after the loved one. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller takes place in Salem in 1692/93 where Abigail Williams is the main character who acts among an evil intent because she can't be with her "love", John Proctor. She is willing to do anything to get Elizabeth out of the way so that she can fulfil her fantasy of being John's wife. John regrets committing adultery while his wife was sick and rejects Abby. Whereas others once reproached her for her adultery, she now has the opportunity to accuse them of the worst sin of all: devil-worship. The sin is fatal. Abigail manipulates and accuses her way up to increase her credibility to get what she wants.
First of all, Abby manipulates everyone that tries to go against her in order to increase power. For instance, Abigail threatens the girls about what they did in the woods by saying, “Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know I can do it.”(Act 1) This threat demonstrates that Abby has no limit, she …show more content…
She manipulates the whole town into believing witches exist in order for her to start her plan in eliminating Elizabeth Proctor. She increases her list of victims as the days go by with the court and group of girls help in believing and making it all grow to life. She says she is God's finger but with all those deaths and sins she has committed, she was more like the devil's finger. Although her plan fails, she kills 19 innocent people including John Proctor. Ironic how she wanted to murder her enemy but ended up killing the one she loves. She did anything to be with her love but she payed the price at the end with
