Summary Of David Axelrod Speech

David Axelrod’s speech to the class and at Tilson Auditorium was inspirational. His story of getting involved into politics and how he rose through the ranks to get the first African American President elected was encouraging to all who want to get involved in politics. His success story started at the age of five when he found his passion. It started while sitting on top of a mailbox listening to John F. Kennedy speak in New York City, this caused Axelrod to become inspired. He believes that our generations direct access to a multitude of news outlets, compared to the generations before were there was only three sources of news, is hurting there impression on politics. Now people are able to have information that pertains to their own personal point of view in a matter of seconds. Social media is distracting us, corrupting people in the current generation to believe that politics are irrelevant and full of corruption. This is causing Democrats and Republicans to have the appearance of being in a constant battle against one another. The relationship in congress is not the same today as it was before. Both caucuses of in Congress are driven by the hard left and right. As Axelrod stated in his talk, he believes that Speaker of the House Boehner wants to work with the President on issues but is forced to comply with the demands of his party’s fundamentalist. This lead to Axelrod to state that the primary system is broken, due to the extremist of both parties controlling who is getting elected, thus causing for the politicians that are elected to stand firm on their party lines not willing to compromise on many issues.
