There are many similarities in the stories “How Stories Came to Earth” and “Coyote Steals Fire”. The first example of a similarity is that both tricksters both use anthropomorphism. Both the animals talk and walk. Another example is that the tricksters both deal with a powerful force in their stories. In both of the stories the more superior person is a god of some sort. The tricksters both achieve a goal that benefits
society. They both wanted to do something for society which they did. The last similarity is that both tricksters are cunning and clever. The tricksters fooled their opposers to get what they wanted. In “Coyote Steals Fire” the Coyote tricks the Thunder god by cheating at a game of dice. Not only is there similarities in the stories there is also many differences. In the tale “How Stories Came to Earth” Anansi the spider obtains stories from the sky-god. He does so by creating traps to capture various animals. In “How Stories Came to Earth” men and women are equal and both important. Anansi ask his wife for help on how to capture animals that were required to get the stories. Anansi the spider achieved his stories by being honest with the animals that he was capturing. He told the animals that he captured that he was turning them in for the stories that the sky-god had. The spider is described as having an old man figure and also having a wife. There’s many similarities and differences that were present in the stories “How Stories Came to Earth” and “Coyote Steals Fire”. Imagine if Anansi the spider didn’t get the stories from the sky-god.
