Carr describes the social media users as sharing too much, giving out information about themselves they wouldn't say to someone's face about themselves. “As we get additional information about others…” (Carr) I think social media, or even texting, makes some people less awkward or scared to be themselves. They’re are some great outlets for expression and doors open to make new friends or become better friends with peers. I personally have awful social anxiety and i'm relatively awkward in my teenage years. It is much easier for me to send a text and say ‘hey’ to someone then to start a simple conversation in person. People can hide behind a screen much easier than in the real world. Negative comments are dropped under pictures and videos daily. I have had comments said about me online that weren't always positive, but i myself have never posted a comment about someone that i regretted afterwards. There will most likely always be negativity online, and ‘trolls’ who find joy in hurting people feelings or annoying people on the internet. Carr writes “So-called trolls are motivated by the anticipation of pleasure...” (Carr) these trolls online are commenting rude things because they find joy in hurting people and making people feel bad.
