Summary Of On Homelessness By Asia Czapska
The article Defining girl homelessness, written by Asia Czapska, Annabel, and Nura Taefi address the issue of ghastly and other difficult situations such as male violence, and sexual assault faced by homeless teenage girls in their everyday life. They tried to define the true meaning of homelessness, which is more than not having a roof over one’s head. The article bring up serious issue in our societies and writers create it emotionally effective and trustworthy. This article describe the situations of homeless girls such as how they often end up living with older men in exchange for a place to stay, couch surfing, insecurity, sexism. The authors done research and found that youth shelters and government programs for homeless youth fail to respond to the needs to the girls, and the needs of aboriginal, and lesbian girls in particular. The authors interviewed the homeless girls who describe their fear and how serious is being homeless. One young woman who found herself living in a squats at the age of 15 or 16 described how bitterly cold it was inside during the winter, while another reported being in a squat fire where she almost lost her life, and another describe living in a squat full of garbage and bloody needles. Other young woman talked about being sexually assaults while sleeping in park. She described how her fear of arrack prevent her from falling sleep when she is sleeping outside. One talked about how as a teenage girl she would burn free newspapers to stay warm on the street. All these experiences told by them make an emotional impact on readers.
