Dr. Maxwell Maltz
Maxwell Maltz Was an American cosmetic surgeon and author of Psycho-Cybernetics (1960), which was a system of ideas that he claimed could improve one's self-image. In turn, the person would lead a more successful and fulfilling life. He wrote several books, among which Psycho-Cybernetics was a long-time bestseller — influencing many subsequent self-help teachers. His orientation towards a system of ideas that would provide self help is considered the forerunner of the now popular self help books.
What is Psycho-Cybernetics?
Almost 51 years ago, Dr. Maxwell Maltz developed psycho-cybernetics, method for harnessing the subconscious mind. Dr, Maltz, as a surgeon found that though he could change his patients’ faces, often they would still feel bad about their appearance for psychological reasons; they were in need of “psychological facelift.” Dr. Maltz popularized the term “self-image” to describe this inner face.
**Cybernetics - is the science of self-regulating system (Nobert Weiner 1946) Cybernetics is the study of self-correcting, goal-seeking mechanisms. Maltz said we have what amounts to a "cybernetic mechanism" in our brain. It only needs a goal and the motivation to take action and it will help you continually correct your course until you achieve the goal.
According to Dr. Maltz , we have a natural ability to achieve our goals (Automatic-Success Mechanism). Generally when people lack confidence it is caused by paying too much attention to the past. To activate the automatic-success mechanism the person would vividly visualize a successful future and encouraging future. Dr. Maltz found he could improve a person’s confidence by helping the individual create a positive and accurate mental image of them.
