cashiers and doing paper work. He approaches the girls and tells them in a loud and brusque tone. "This is not a beach," he demands. Queenie blushes and explains she is just shopping for a single item that her mother needs for their house party. The manager repeats himself just a loud as the first time and the young girl can't help but be her embarrass. Sammy checks the girls out and as he does the whole scene angers him. While the girls are ready to leave, he loudly and abruptly quits. He prays the girls witness it and are overjoyed by his action. The girls hurried out of the store, and had no idea he quit. The manager asks Sammy if he really want to follow through, voicing him a chance to think about it because of his family. The manager likes Sammy and knows his family. Sammy does it anyways, running outside to catch up with the girls. But all he sees is an empty parking lot with no sign of the three girls.
Analysis
This story was not my favorite that we read this semester.
I don't really like how bland the story was, it was a guy at the grocery store who saw these girls and then quit his job, there was not any excitement behind it. I think the story does an excellent job with details which I really liked and made the story more interesting. Like Sammy I also work at a grocery store. Like his experience with the older lady how she was waiting for him to make a mistake so she could jump on it and freak out and make him feel guilty. People come into Shaws all the time with their mistakes and usually they aren't happy about it. Also I remember this one lady who hands me one coupon at a time to make sure they scan in right and she will have about 30 coupons. Instead of just letting you know you have made a mistake usually they freak out and say how they can't afford to pay anymore and tell you their story about how every penny counts and how if it is a few pennies off they will make you change it or take it off. As I felt embarrassed at the moment because there were other customers around, Sammy might of felt the same
way.
