Summary Of The 5th Wave
Imagine aliens that look identical to humans taking over the entire world, how would you react? Author Rick Yancey, published on May 8, 2013, The 5th Wave. This novel occurred in present-day Dayton, Ohio. The 5th Wave is a novel about a sixteen-year-old named Cassiopeia “Cassie” Sullivan that tries to survive an alien invasion. The aliens, also known as the Others, attacked in five waves. The first wave was when the alien spaceship sent an electromagnetic pulse that caused all the electricity and technology to be shorted out. The second wave caused a tsunami that was heading towards Cassie and her little brother, Samuel Jackson Sullivan when they were out looking for supplies. sent down a deadly virus that would kill more than half the population. Once the virus infected many people, they began fleeing their homes and went to shelters that were protected by the military but this is when the fourth wave began. The soldiers suggested that people should place their children on a bus that was sent to the military base to ensure that they would be safe from harm. The parents, on the other hand, were lead into a room that left their fate unclear. The fifth and final wave is when Cassie and her friend, Benjamin Parish try to survive the world full of aliens.
The novel begins with Cassie, having an M16 rifle by her side for protection, walking into a gas station to get some food but all of a sudden she began to hear a faint sound of groaning in the closet.
She opens the closet and notices that a stranger that was hurt, on the ground. The stranger was holding his hand on the inside of his jacket and as he was taking out his hand she thought that she saw a piece of metal and fired at him and ended up killing the stranger but it turns out that he was holding a crucifix. The novel brings the reader back to the beginning where aliens, also known as the Others, came from outer space and decided to take over Earth. They attacked in multiple waves but the first wave left an impact on the world. The alien’s first wave sent out an electromagnetic pulse causing everyone to lose power. Nothing was working for anybody, not even cars, televisions, and planes began to fall from the sky. People began wondering what the aliens had in store for them. Some people believed that the aliens had come in peace and others began to worry that they were nothing but pure evil. Cassie and her family were left in confusion as to what was occurring in their hometown but did not realize that this was happening to the whole
world.
After the aliens completed the first part of their plan, they initiated part two. The next wave occurred when Cassie and her little brother, Sam were walking back home with a wagon full of supplies. As they were walking, they felt the ground beginning to shake and then it stopped leaving them in confusion but once they looked behind them they saw a ton of water coming straight for them.
