Summary Of The Chosen And It By Chaim Potok
This summer I read a book titled The Chosen and it was written by Chaim Potok. To understand this book, we must take a trip into the lives of Reuven and Danny. They lived two completely different lives but through a twist of fate they were brought together under difficult circumstances and became friends. Reuven and Danny shared a positive relationship and always found their way back to each other. They supported each other’s dreams and helped one another to find their strengths. They never officially gave up on each other. Also, they demonstrated what true friends have that most people don’t have. By telling this story, I believe that the author wants us, the readers, to learn that friendship is one of the most powerful forces on earth. It paves a way for compassion, love, joy, and many other elements. It is the glue that holds our lives together. …show more content…
In the book, Reuven talked about how Danny, although he was supposed to inherit the position of being a Rabbi, wanted to become a psychologist. When Danny told Reuven this, Reuven did not scold him but lifted him higher and embraced his decision. Also, when Reuven found out that Danny was bad at math he tutored him so that he would improve his math skills. He did not have to do this but he chose to because that is what friends do. One way that Danny helped Reuven was that he allowed Reuven to come to his house every Saturday so that he could study the Talmud with his father, who was a Rabbi, because Reuven’s dream was to become a Rabbi. Friends are always lending a hand to help each other become better on what they

The Chosen is a phenomenal book so far. In this novel, I can really appreciate Chaim Potok’s creative mind. I find it so interesting how hate can turn to friendship. I also find it interesting that two Jews living in the same area can hate each other. How do two young men who come from similar backgrounds…hate each other? The author does a wonderful job of explaining how they do not believe in exactly the same things, but indeed are similar. Danny’s family is more “traditional” while Reuven’s family is more “modern”, but both are Jews living in a relatively tense time.…

“The noise inside the synagogue ceased so abruptly that I felt its absence as one would a sudden lack of air…it simply stopped, cut off, as if a door had slammed shut on a playroom filled with children. The silence that followed had a strange quality to it: expectation, eagerness, love, awe” (124-125). The Chosen by Chaim Potok tells a story about a boy named Reuven, who befriends another boy called Danny and his father. Despite their different religions, both Reuven and Danny have many adventures together and learn about each other’s religion. Danny’s father, Reb Saunders, lives his life as a Hasidic Rabbi portraying traditional, Orthodox Judaism. He cares for his congregation sometimes more than his family. Oftentimes, Reb Saunders also devotes himself to the Jewish community who respect him and look to him as their leader. Throughout the book, Reb Saunders demonstrates determination, passionate, and responsible character traits.…

His father forbids him from reading any non-Jewish literature and raises Danny in silence, never speaking directly to him. His contact with the secular world is limited and even amongst Jews, Reuven is his only non-Orthodox friend. Danny appears to be unable to have a decision in any part of his life, as all of it is carefully laid out and structured for him.…

In “The Chosen” by Chaim Potok, one of the themes that it addresses is coming of age for young adults. It is quite a journey for everyone and even for Danny. Danny has to find what he truly wants in life, which is to become a psychologist, and tell his father. Everyone has different experiences and different feelings when going through this stage of life, which is finding your true self. In the story, Danny goes through the three different stages of coming of age, realization, experimentation, and reintegration. Everyone can relate to this story, no matter what age; you either have gone through it, are about to, or are going through the difficult process of coming of age. My advice for young adults going through this is just be you; don’t worry…

True friendship is built on trust and mutual support. Your real friend will always find time to talk and try to find solutions to the hard problems you face every day. They are always there to help you and expect the same from you. Friends are psychologically comfortable with each other, and sometimes are emotionally closer than with their relatives. Friends help you overcome challenges you may face at times in your life. A special thing about friendship is that friends have the ability to do different things like simply talking something through and giving advice or physically helping you Sometimes friends find more comfort in each other rather than family because they might have the idea that there family might judge them, and there friend will tell it right. In difficult times, friends make you see things from a different point of view, allowing you to take time to reflect and examine the situation. Doing this it allows you to see another perspective of the situation and find another way to overcome your challenge.…

Friendship is a blessing, and a friend is the channel through whom great emotional, spiritual, and sometimes even physical blessings flow. Friends can cheer us when we 're sorrowful or depressed. Friends can challenge us when we allow ourselves to get beyond our reasonable boundaries. Friends can motivate us when we 're ready to give in, and they can provide for us when life falls apart. They are there when all is well, and we want someone with whom to share life 's pleasant and memorable moments. We often just want them around to have a good time, to laugh, to act silly; to enjoy some mutually liked activity. In how many ways have friends enriched…
