a difficult life. Michel, had been reluctant to believe how a supposed father, could be able to choose between his two sons, neglecting ones’ existence.
In accordance to section called, Monkey Tails, Michel speculates, “Still, it was too painful for me to be reminded that I had a father who lived and worked so close to me and still didn’t call me his son. I didn’t understand why my mother had to struggle so much to earn money when she could have asked him for it, why she had to force Rosie into virtual slavery to keep us afloat” (Danticat, 160). Among Michel having to questioned why his “sperm-donor” father, would be reluctant to care for him and his mother, implies the inability for Michel to establish full closure. The fact that Michel happens to be questioning the actions of his supposed father, makes it obvious to perceive his inclusive perception of the situation. Furthermore, Dany’s character, had lost both of his mother and father due to the dismay of another individuals’ hands, triggering the incapacity to find the true resolution to his confliction. According to the section called, Night Talkers, Dany states, “When he was a boy, he’d heard about political prisoners being choked in their sleep, their faces swelling, their eyes bluging out of their
hands. He wanted to do the same thing now to the barber. Or maybe press a pillow down on his face” (Danticat, 107). This shows Dany’s incapability to fully find closure because he seeks vengeance to gain his purpose of making the barber pay for his murders committed. It is obviously noted throughout time, that revenge will only conclude to more inflicted harm, resulting into a cycle that never stops; thus, closure among Dany’s supposed resolution, will only permit more traumatized events.
