Envision reading a satisfying novel that is very relatable. Then a sudden realization comes to mind that the title of the book makes absolutely no sense.…
John Wilson in the beginning is an honest man trying to make a better life for his family back home in Scotland. My opinion of John Wilson started out as him use being a nicenguyntrying to help everyone out. John starts life out in Canada pretty rough, he can't find good work and the climate is hard on his lungs. In an attempt to get back home he applies for the army but is turned down because of his lung condition with a little luck he lands a good job with the Police force. John meets Jessie Patterson, who he immediately takes an interest in and John being all bright and using his brain has a wife and 2 children back home but that doesn't stop him for going for Jessie. John's feelings toward Jessie turn serious and shortly after a rumor that the Mountie in fact is still married appears. When confronted about this by Jessie's dad he says that he was married, but his wife died after he left the old country John lies to cover up his old marriage and i think that is completely wrong and makes him a huge liar!…
He was a solider who took no interest in political tactics and military greed. While tracking the Confederate Army, I found it interesting that he stopped to save to a Rebel officer. This moment demonstrated that the Civil War was a war that was fought between “enemy’s”, but also fellow countryman. The war was simply a matter of geography and John Buford warmly waved to the Rebel officer because he understood this.…
John, who is Nanabush, enters the Anishnawbe community as a representation of disorder and chaos. Initially, the only relationship that John has within the community is with Lillian. Maggie asks John how he knows her mother and he informs her that he knew her from “A long time ago.” Maggie then questions him saying “You’re younger than me. This doesn’t make any sense” to which John replies “Yeah, I know. Isn’t it great? Who needs sense!” (Taylor 89). A lack of sense implies a lack of order and therefore promotes chaos and John's remark that the state of lacking sense is “great” situates his character as one that is comfortable and fimiliar with chaos. The various names of John are a depiction of the disorder he wishes to establish (examples of his stated names are ‘Tanner,’ ‘Richardson,’ ‘Prestor,’ ‘Clayton,’ ‘Matas,’ ‘Frum,’ ‘Savage,’ and ‘Smith’ (Austen)). By continually altering his name, John is able to create multiple reference points for his character which only furthers his ambiguity and chaotic nature. Another example of John's promotion of chaos occurs when he lies about the history of Natives in the museum (Taylor 240-41). By lying about the Native history, John is furthering the distance that exists between Natives and their oppressors which creates turmoil, thus causing a chaos of historical accuracy for the Anishnawbe community. Throughout the course of the novel, Virgil places importance and wonders about the significance of petroglyphs. Eventually, John tells Virgil that the drawings are not symbols or markings, to which Virgil exclaims that “they’re all nothing…
Heros always have to make their own sacrifices to make others feel good or for people to know they are safe. Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass both fought for freedom and liberty to benefit others. For example frederick was beaten to his knees and exiled by the southerners but rose to the occasion of escaping. To me this sounds like a person that did not give up on his escape and he new the consequences of being caught. abraham lincoln rose to the occasion as well and represented and defended the people of the ‘U.S.A’. This is like he decided he would not going to let the union fall apart by the civil war but keep it together by fighting for the freedom and liberty. Another way that Frederick Douglass fought for freedom and liberty is…
Each hero battled their fear differently and thus discovered a hidden truth behind the challenge they were faced with. John was born into his fear. He had no say or no choice. He had to find the positive out of every situation throughout his life. “Never put off till tomorrow the fun you can have today.” John did what he could to service happily with himself. Adversity was a struggle for him. His hidden truth was his ability to feel and show affection, of which no one was able to understand. This proved to be difficult for John being somewhat isolated. On the other hand, Pi was a quick and decisive learner. His fear was conquered through his self-determination. Fishing and taming Mr. Parker (the tiger) revealed much of his hidden truth. Pi revealed, “The presence of God is the finest of rewards.” To him, it was as if his fear now became the feared. Pi was rewarded with self-empowerment.…
He was a man amongst kids even though he began the play as the problem he showed character by trying to fix his problems. Cheating is always wrong, but the way John got his wife's forgiveness and died for his families name slightly helps his situation. This is his self-redeeming moment that every Aristotelian hero must face in his lifetime to be considered one. He fills the characterics needed to be an Aristotelian hero, but not only that to also be a role model for his family and friends. Even though he may have some flaws he overthrows that with positive actions that he continued to do until his death. Everyone has flaws and issues at some point in their lives, but what’s important is if they can battle through it and make a positive difference to another person’s…
John was then turned over to serve as an indentured servant on a slave ship. The slave trader that he served severally beat him until he was rescued by a ship captain that John’s father knew. This was a major turning point for John as he got a fresh start with the new captain. John sailed with this new captain for a little bit before he became the captain of his own ship.…
John is the main character and the protagonist of the story “By the Waters of Babylon” and the son of the tribal priest. He is a character who displays bravery and determination in his personality. The reason why I chose the words bravery and determination to describe John is because he was brave enough to travel to the Place of Gods even though warned that it was forbidden to journey towards there. He assumed that he would have gotten killed if he trespassed the Place of the Gods instead risked his life anyways. He felt determined when starting his journey when he observed signs to see if he was destined to travel East. When he saw these signs, he was more determined to discover what was in the Place of Gods. Now there is another important…

Behind a drum kit, I feel different than I do with any other instrument. The ordered chaos of cymbal clashes and rolls on the toms is satisfying in the same way that popping bubble wrap or crunching down on new snow is satisfying: it feels inevitable and mildly destructive. It is also intensely physical, with the right foot on the kick drum, left foot on the hi-hat, and arms going wherever necessary.…

When John got to his base camp he had wondered what happened to the previous soldiers. Then he noticed that the previous soldiers’ supplies, wagons, guns, and uniforms have all been thrown into the lake. He also noticed that caves were built so he wondered what had driven the men to hide in caves. One day John was swimming and he saw a horse that wasn’t his, so he started walking toward his quarters and a native walked out. John fell to the ground and watched the native while he looked around. Then John got confidence and started walking toward the native. When the native saw him he fled in fear but John was confused at the time.…
It was an order and responsibility that he could not avoid, as well as the other thousands of men. He was desperate and refused to leave his family but he had no choice. He started a hard life in the barrack, with his family apart for such a long period of time, it was never a more difficult and suffering sacrifice he could had done. Days in the barrack were rather suffering, there were military trainings night and days. They literally were not allowed to contact or communicate their family. It was even more suffering as he himself heard that the battle had spread to their own hometown, unaware of the safety of their own love ones, there is nothing that they could do. As a father and a husband, it is a heavy burden.…
