B) One point in the story where I disagreed with Tom’s choice was when he didn’t go to the cinema with Clare, to stay home and work. If he were with his wife at the cinema he would not have almost died. Another point where I disagreed with Tom’s choice was when he “swung a leg over the sill” to get the yellow sheet of paper, the yellow sheet was not as important as his life …show more content…
2.
A) Tom goes out on the ledge to retrieve his yellow sheet of paper he thinks is very important. He had spent weeks writing ideas on this sheet, “On four long Saturday afternoons he had stood in supermarkets counting the people who passed certain displays, and the results were scribbled on that yellow sheet. From stacks of trade publications, gone over page by page in snatched half hours at work and during evening at home, he had copied facts, quotations, and figures onto that sheet” page 9. He does not understand, until he gets out on the ledge, how great a risk he is taking.
B. This reveals that Tom is filled with ambition. This shows that Tom cares deeply about his work, to the extent that he would jeopardy his own well-being.
3 A) When Tom looks between his legs down into Lexington Avenue he feels terrified. He was going to faint, he felt the blood rush from the surface of his skin . “For a motionless instant he saw himself externally—bent practically double, balanced on this narrow ledge, nearly half his body projecting out above the street far below—and he began to tremble violently, panic flaring through his mind and
muscles”
B) Tom’s feelings affect his ability to get off the ledge because he becomes paralyzed and thinks that he will faint. His sudden intense explosion of total horror scared through him.
4 A) At the beginning of the story Tom was being selfish, he was not spending time with his wife, but instead his only interest was his job. By the end of the story Tom regretted all the evenings he had spent home alone. He realizes his wife, Clare is much more important.
B. What causes his attitude to change is that while he is on the ledge he realizes how foolish he is to be on a ledge for a yellow sheet of paper that isn’t as important as he thought. Tom thought of all the nights he spent without Clare and how easily he could fall to his death. It took Tom to encounter an almost death situation to realize that is ambition had taken over his life
C.) One change Tom will defiantly make after this experience is to spend less time on work. Another change he probably make is to spend more time with his wife, enjoying they’re relationship
5) A lesson you can learn from Tom is to appreciate all the little things in life and spend time doing things you love with the people you love, because what truly matters is the people in your live and the relationships with them.
6.) I don’t think a movie would be as good as the story because it would be difficult to understand what is happening in Tom’s head. Since he has a lot of thoughts
