and "Little Italy". People were able to live in America, while still maintaining a sense of self. However, this is not the case today. We live in a society where integration is stressed. Those not born in the country are heavily encouraged to erase their non-native identities. Although we live in a "free" society, there is no question that certain languages and religions are discriminated against in the United States.
