Summary Of 'What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown?'
When playing football you need to always be thinking on the run. In the debate over the importance of physical prowess and mental agility in sports, Sanneh and Heinrich have similar views, with Sanneh supporting the idea that mental strength and agility has a contribute in football in “What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown?” and Heinrich suggesting that mental strength and agility is also used in running and “Why We Run” has a lot of examples of that.

To begin with, When you’re playing football you need to always be thinking on the run. In addition to the thesis we need to use evidence from the text to support the claim. In the passage it states that “Dwight Lowery, has been watching the play unfold. He breaks toward the ball,Intercepts it’s

Just like the first paragraph we need evidence to support the claim. “Although at that moment I could just barely have run another step further” I found this quote on page number sixty-five. This supports my thesis because you need a lot of agility to go those far distances and mental strength you need to have because of the effect or beating running has on you. “And our minds,as much as our lungs” I found this quote on page sixty-eight. This supports my thesis because it said our mind and that is all mental strength and our lungs are the agility.

In conclusion mental strength and agility are important because any sport you’ll take a beating and you will always need to be agile. It matters to have mental strength and agility because if your mind can take the beating and especially if your body could take the beating. You also need to put in effort and you’re not supposed to put in one-hundred percent you need to put in one-hundred and ten percent because you gotta dig deep down to find that part of you that is searching for

In Mark Edmundsons article “do sports build character or damage it?” Edmundson makes a very good case that supports his idea that sports can build character. He also gives good reasons as to why some people think that sports just breed brutality, and are a diversion from the business of education. Sports are a complex issue, and this article proves it is clear that we as a culture are unsure how to think about them. Edmundson goes on to tell about when he was a young man in high school, and his first year playing football. Football is a dangerous sport, and he tells of how many people get injured, whether its from concussions, broken bones, or…

To begin with, Bernd Heinrich identifies on when runners win, they have an “involuntary gesture” to which they put up their hands in the air. Bernd Heinrich clarifies, “This involuntary gesture is reflexive for most runners who have fought hard, who have breathed the heat and smelled the fire, and then felt the exhilaration of triumph over adversity.” ( Heinrich 69 ). During this quote, it has shown that from mental power we didn’t let problems get in the way of our dreams within sports, but how we really just kept on moving through the journey from the success of winning. Furthermore, the author paints a picture by describing the feelings receives when he approaches someone or something, running their heart out just to achieve their motive. Heinrich sympathizes,“ I get choked up when I see a kid, or anyone else, fighting hopeless odds- someone who goes there to run the lonely roads with a dream in heart, a gleam in the eye, and a goal in mind” (Heinrich 71 ). Fighting these hopeless odds, we’ve shown the determination to keep on going, as we have fought hard to reach our main objective, and by using our mental strength it gave us the advantage to accomplish our dreams to sports. In short, Bernd describes the thoughts in our minds as we run and and how we never stop just to win these goals we have. The author lastly explains to the…

Is mental strength as important as physical strength? Some people asked this may say no, and some may say yes. I think mental and physical strength are equal in many ways. I think the articles Why We Run by Bernd Heinrich, ¨Confessions of a Doper¨ by Jonathan Vaughters, and other quotes by famous athletes can back me up a little. If anything, maybe they help me go through my own struggles as an athlete.…

It is not worth having agility if you have not got any balance. Balance is not just vital in any sport but is vital in everyday life such as running. It is particularly vital in racket sports such as tennis, because as you are darting around the tennis court and using other skills, such as agility, you don't want to lose balance and control. This is why it is vital for any sportsmen to develop this skill.…

Mental fitness is key in life, whether it’s a decision of what way to get to school/work or to create that killer pass in a football match that could win it for your team. By taking part in sport activities you will enhance your mental stability on how well you react and make decisions, making school work or your general job so much easier as you will be able to make that instinctive thought on what to do or how to do it. It will also allow you to stay more focused on your achievements, for example rock climbing. The way rock climbing improves your mental stability is making your brain think a little more on going the safer/less risk routes on your trek up the rock. All of which is necessary in your usual day to day life.…

The qualities required for the athlete to excel in the field are the tenacity, persistence, winning attitude and self belief. Many athletes fail to win because a lack of belief, in their own minds they don't believe that they can win, they are paralyzed by the fear of losing, they are not able to harness their inner fears. For example, before a football game the coach always goes over all the different things that every player must do in order for the team to win, a lot of it is motivation and stategy, convince the players that they can win (the good ones don't need convincing).…
