Abstract
The field of medicine includes many different professions. Some serve a more inclusive role than others, but are equally important. Others serve vital proactive roles in the effort to avoid or minimize the risk of experiencing decease. The interaction of many Health Care Professionals is what makes it all work. Effective communication and the collaboration of all Health Care Professionals is vital to avoid errors that can lead to misdiagnosis, malpractice and ineffective Health Care. In this paper I will discuss three different Health Care Professions, their roles and how they might interact to provide a holistic approach to caring for their clients.
Respective Roles of Other Health Care Professionals Medical professionals have their own respective roles to worry about. Some play small roles while other play a more inclusive roles, none more important than the other. Without all of the professions and professionals in the Medical field, our society would not benefit from the holistic approach to health care that we’ve all become accustomed to. The greatest impact Health Care Professionals can make on their respective communities includes a comprehensive effort shared by all involved in …show more content…
the prevention of decease, and improvement of health in the community. The collaboration of Health Care Professionals is essential to providing optimal care to the community.
Three Kaplan Health Professions
Medical Assistants play a vital role in the administration of health care. Physicians and Doctors rely on them to carry out administrative task like taking vital signs in preparation for other procedures. Medical Assistants do most or all of the record keeping, preparation and maintenance of medical equipment, injections, collection of specimen and bodily fluid for lab testing. The suggested education credentials to become a Medical Assistant is at a minimum is an Associate of Science in Medical Assisting (Stubblefield, H. 2012). The average annual wage for Medical Assistants is $30,550 a year, $14.12 an hour (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014).
Medical Office Management professionals are another important profession needed in the health care effort. They manage the everyday operations of the medical facilities we all depend on for our health care. The scope of responsibilities includes, but is not limited to, the booking of appointments, submitting billing documents to patients, paying medical facility bills, data entry and processing, supervision of the work staff and the maintenance of medical records. In most cases they are largely responsibility for the hiring and termination of the staff. As you see a Medical Office Manager has an enormous amount of responsibility. The average annual wage for Medical Office Managers is $45,650 a year, $17.32 an hour (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014)
Phlebotomist are the professionals who’s primary responsibility is the effectively draw the blood of patients, either to send to a laboratory for testing, to facilitate the collection of plasma, or administer medical treatment intravenously. Not every one has the stomach to perform this task, so Phlebotomists serve a very important purpose in medical facilities and blood banks. To become a Phlebotomist one must be certified through an accredited program. Must employers prefer to hire people that have a national certification credential; for example an American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification (Education Portal, 2012). The average annual wage for Phlebotomist will range anywhere from $20,230 - $42,361 a year and $5.78 - $25.78 an hour.
Collaborate With Each Profession
Health Care Professionals interaction is a necessity in order to provide the best care to their respective patients. For instance, a Medical Office Manager will book the appointment after a Medical Assistant determines through what the Doctor decides and the patients needs when he/she will need to come back for follow-up procedures. The profession I have chosen, Nutritionist, will have my work hand in hand with Medical Office Mangers. Clients of Nutritionist will sometimes need to see a doctor in order to determine a base line health assessment. Nutritionists are not certified to draw blood, or administer medical examines so for that reason he/she would have form a good working relationship with a Medical Office Manger.
Medical Assists play an important role in the field health care.
They are the ones that perform all of the administrative tasks that a physician doesn’t have the time to do. Without Medical Assistants Physician would be inundated with minuscule tasks, and their impact on patients in need would be greatly reduced. A Nutritionist with a large workload would greatly benefit by the hiring of a competent Medical Assistant; it would free the Nutritionist up to possibly tend to more clients increasing his/her impact on the community. After all, as a health care professional the goal is to increase the overall health of your respective
community.
Phlebotomist primary responsibility is to draw the blood of patients. These professionals are certified and trusted by complete strangers. Many people have a phobia of needles, so a steady hand and experience is a must. As a Nutritionist you might be inclined to request a clients blood be drawn and examined to uncover any reasons for unexplained weight gain, weight lose, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or just to determine a clients overall health. Once again Nutritionist are not certified in phlebotomy, so a comprehensive effort will be made.
Prepare to interact with each profession.
As a Nutritionist you will depend on all of afore mentioned professions to adequately assess and treat your clients; without the ability to do so, your effectiveness will be reduced. In order to collaborate with Medical Office Managers effectively, Nutritionist will have to learn a little bit of what they do on a day-to-day basis. It’s always good to know about what the responsibilities of your counter-parts are in hopes to be able to aid them in doing their job. Good working relationships last longer.
Medical Assistants are a critical part of the administration of effective medical care. Without Medical Assistants there would be a huge gap to fill that would fall in the Physicians hands. Physicians being the subject matter experts and heavily relied upon in the health care environment must have the time assess and treat the maximum amount of patients possible, and Medical Assistants allow for this to happen. As a Nutritionist with a heavy workload the hiring of a competent, experienced Medical Assistant would greatly increase your effectiveness.
A Phlebotomist would conduct the drawing of the blood of the patients a Nutritionist is attempting to assess. Since many of the underlying issues for weight-gain, or weight-lose can be discovered by the examination of ones blood, interacting with a Phlebotomist is inevitable. To prepare oneself for this interaction a Nutritionist could first find an experienced Phlebotomist and coordinate times that he/she can facilitate the drawing of your patient’s blood. Some Phlebotomist are willing to free-lance and assist you in the caring of your patients.
Summary
New studies in the Health Care field keep it ever evolving and improving. The primary responsibility of Health Care Professionals is to improve the health of their community. In order to do so every profession must learn to work together in a professional manner and share information that can possibly assist others in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of their patients. This effort will ensure mistakes are minimized and the big health care is received by the community.
