Superpowers During The Vietnam War
The Cold War was the conflict between the two superpowers of the world, the democratic republic of the United States of America and the communist government of the Soviet Union. From 1947 until the 1990s the two superpowers fought each other for leverage and jurisdiction of the world. The relationship between the superpowers had been strained before The Cold War because tensions between the United States and Soviet Union had been lasting since 1917 with the start of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia. Then the Potsdam Conference was held by Great Britain, Soviet Union, and the United States in July 1945 to discuss the future of Germany and the rest of Europe after the end of the Second World War in 1945 when the eyes of both superpowers were

For instance the Vietnam War was a war fought between North Vietnam who was supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies and the government of South Vietnam, which was supported by the United States and other anti-communist allies. This was because the U.S. government viewed its involvement in the war as a way to avert a communist movement in South Vietnam. This was part of an extensive restrainment policy that with the stated aim of ceasing the expansion of communism because the North Vietnamese government and the Viet Cong were quarrelling to reunify Vietnam under communist rule. However the American people were fed up with the government's involvement in foreign affairs and were tired of sending their loved ones to be drafted into combat to fight an enemy they had no hostility towards. So the American people began nonviolent, peaceful anti-war protests to show the U.S. government that they felt that the war in Vietnam was a civil war that ought to have determined the fate of their own country and, therefore, America had no right to intervene. Not only did America have domestic issues, but the Soviet Union did as well, such as having many effects on Soviet society because in Russia, military spending was cut dramatically. The effects of this were very large, seeing as the military had previously employed millions and its dismantling left hundreds of millions throughout the former Soviet Union
