Survival! What is your first thought when you see survival? What comes to your mind when you see the word ‘Survival’? Surviving a terrible tragedy? Surviving a hardship? Well, everyone’s definition for this particular word ‘survival’ may differ slightly. This is because everyone’s perception of this word is different. Thus, one will always get a different answer when he or she asks for the definition of the word survival from anyone.
This word ‘survival’ comes from the word survive, from survive + -al. It was first used by Herbert Spencer by using the phrase “survival of the fittest”. He used the phrase after reading Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species. This phrase “survival of the fittest”, Mr. Darwin called it as 'natural selection', or the preservation of favored races in the struggle for life.
Survival has a main definite meaning. Based on Oxford Dictionary, survival is defined as the condition of continuing to live. It is usually in spite of any accident, ordeal, or any challenging circumstances. One that succeeds to survive any of these is known as a type of survival. For example, in the year 1972 at Andes Mountain, a plane was crashed. A group of people including the Uruguayan rugby team were involved in this tragedy. In order to survive, they practice cannibalism. They ate the flesh of the other passengers who died in the crash for at least 70 days when they were stranded. This situation is known as survival.
From the view of my perspective towards the word survival is not only surviving difficult circumstances. To me, survival is known as not giving up and keeps persevering no matter what situation comes to our way. We must handle the situations that we face in a right manner and not avoid it to survive in this society. One that always give up and keeps avoiding the situation that they face may not be able to survive. This is because most of these peoples do not even try to solve the problems as they always avoid them since
