In my narrative, I described a particular event that happened in a specific community where I was treated differently from the people around me. I think that the teacher wanted me to analyze different ideas to show differences between discourse communities. What I struggled with the most with was showing rather than telling in my narrative. Adding details and scenery to the story is something I found challenging because I am not good at describing things. I tried to show rather than tell and I added more details but I found this as a struggle because I didn’t know what language to use to describe my surroundings. My favorite sentences in my narrative are “His gaze was burning through my flesh, creating a sensation of sweat and heat. My friends and I tried walking quickly to lose the trail of the security guard but he barely …show more content…

And after that is a reflection of what had happened and then I concluded with sharing my thoughts about what happened. After I was done with my first draft. I then added more details on the scenery, the characters, and conclusion. I also attempted to arrange the events that occurred in order so that my story flowed well. Lastly, I was able to add my writing from the Literacy Narrative Part 2 which was about the discourse communities that I am apart of and I was able to add parts of it to my narrative. Out of all the steps in my writing process, I believe prewriting was the most helpful. In prewriting you’re supposed to let your thoughts flow without stopping and making changes. So because I didn’t take the time to stress on proper grammar and more, I was able to start my first draft faster. Prewriting also helped me narrow what I wrote into groups, in this case the importance of rice in my family. Not only did prewriting help me narrow my writing into groups, but it also helped me, who was struggling, to find topics to talk about.…

On a cold, brisk snowy night in New York City little did I know I was about to make an encounter with someone I'd never forget. I was waiting for a friend in McDonald's so she could get her food and stay inside for warmth, when I realized someone not too far behind me was talking. Startled, I turned around I saw a homeless man wrapped in torn up blankets, shaggy, undone brown hair and trying to keep warm like the rest of us. My first instinct was to stay clear until a woman had drooped her purse and money rolled around his feet, as he bent down to retrieve the money to all our disbelief he handed her the money and told her something extraordinary. As he handed the woman back her money with shaky hands, he looked down and exclaimed how,"Money…

I remember when they kicked us out. It was only a couple of weeks ago. We Indians were minding our own business when the troops first came. They dragged us out of our tents and sent us walking with only the clothes on our back. My family decided to go to the Oklahoma region along with our tribe. Although I was born a child of the ghetto I learned that the ghetto is where I’m teenage mother in Kingston, Jamaica. I currently reside in Seaview Gardens a community that is said to be a ghetto, and don’t get me wrong, it is but it’s my suburb and it’s where I learnt everything I know. “What people think of a ghetto is dependent on how people in the ghetto think” – Shadiomar McPharlene; where I live although there’s distractions all around, we chose how to react to those distractions and we chose whether we let the distractions build or destroy us. I chose to make them my foundation to success.…
