People who have read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck should know that there are a lot of similarities and differences compared to the book A Separate Peace by John Knowles. The central message of these two books display some good and bad times of two male friends and the struggle of their friendship. In the book, Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie have a tough time getting along through their journey of living on a farm. In the book A Separate Peace, Gene finds it hard to accept Finny as a true friend, since Gene thinks he is invincible. These books would not be the same if Lennie was not handicap and Finny was not perfect. There are many similar themes that could go along with these books, but only three work best. The story of Gene and Finny’s relationship compared to the story of George and Lennie’s teach many comparable life lessons because they both display friendship, the American dream, and the coming of age.…
the theme of family is almost constant in the movie. Throughout there is allways a reminder somewhere showing us that family is important. the main characters Anne and Luc share a very spotlighted relationship, in the sense that it is allways in the audiences focus throughout the film. Their relationship is a constantly developing one, with luc constantly changing from a brother to sister relationship, to a farther daughter…
They both have similar qualities that relate in each story. In Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice and Men, the time period is set in the 1930s. In the movie Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, it is set more in the modern times. The characters act and are similar in a lot of ways. Gilbert is a teenager that is struggling to support his family after his father killed himself. Gilbert relates to George because they are both constantly having to take care of someone else. George is always having to take care of Lennie. Lennie is also a mentally handicapped man who is the reason why they are in trouble most of the time. Lennie and Arnie are exactly the same. They both have a "fatherly" figure that is always there to take care of them and they both are diagnosed with mentally retardation.…
As portrayed in both stories, Of Mice and Men and A Separate Peace, friendship was undoubtfully the epitome of both plot lines. There was George and Lennie, an odd couple bounded by the ties of “brotherhood and a dream. "'A guy needs somebody-to be near him.' He whined, 'A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody.'" (72) There was also Gene and Phineas, the other’s significant self, connected by their balanced natures and undeniable trust. "Naturally I don't believe books and I don't believe teachers, but I do believe-it's important for me to believe you [Gene]. Christ, I've got to believe you, at least. I know you better than anybody" (154). As both authors lead our fellow characters into tough situations, it brings out the solid truth behind their relationships. Through the similarities and differences on the concept of friendship in each book, overall messages can be concluded by both authors based on the actions and thoughts perceived by the characters.…
To illustrate the progression of time, Bell writes the novel as a third person narrative that changes main character on four different occasions. All main characters are part of the same family, giving interpretations of the struggles they face over three different generations. The transition of main characters was always a result of a death. Whether that be in part one when the main character, George Kracha‘s wife dies after a long spin of illness, which can be gathered was a result of heart ache. Or when the actual main character dies like Mike Dobrejcak in a work related accident at the mill, and Mary Dobrejcak-Kracha after being hospitalized from consumption and later dyeing from the flu. Bell portrays a quite grim depiction of the fatality rate during the second industrial revolution. There is an emphasis on the struggles the working class had to go through just in order to stay alive.…
The protagonists' beliefs make them alike. They hold the values of family highly, and rely on each other. The fate of their loved ones means the world to them, and for this reason they persevere through whatever comes at them, though they have already sacrificed so much. Mike, though capable of achieving much more than what he does, works in a mill so that Mary and his children can live better right up until his death. As a family, it is inherent that they hold the same morals, but the similarities go beyond that.…
Friendship includes many different characteristics for people to have a strong bond that will last between two or a group of people. Friendship and loyalty is expressed throughout the book, Of Mice and Men, by the two main characters George, who is responsible for Lennie’s well-being and finding them both work, and Lennie, who follows George and has a mental disability. George and Lennie grow very close and George takes the responsibility of Lennie after his Aunt Clara’s death. Their goal together, through trust and friendship, is to attain their own land to work on and own. Through a close bond, this goal is achievable because they both strive for success to make their dream, a reality.…
J.W. Van Goethe once said “no two persons regard in the world in exactly the same way.” This means everybody has different views of the world and responds physically and mentally to different situations. I agree with this quote because we all have different perspectives and we often debate about the way we view society. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck clearly shows how two persons are different in their own independent ways. The story of two migrant workers, George and Lennie run away from a farm in weed California because Lennie who freezes when he’s s cared, doesnt let go of a girls dress she panics and accuses him of rape. they try to make their dream come true of having their own house where they can live off the fat of the land. George and Lennie have to work at a ranch miles away from their preceding job, they meet the bosses son named Curly who has a short temper, and also meet a well-respected jerk line skinner who people look up to. Both men regard the world in different ways and both have different personalities that make them who they are.…

1. Of Mice and Men shows us that people can be cruel, or kind, or sometimes a mixture of both. Compare 2 characters (not George or Lennie). Write about the ways in which those characters are cruel, or kind, or a combination. Thesis question- How do the actions of these characters help create a theme in Of Mice and Men?…
Both narratives used relationships to play a great part, relationships such as friendships, family and love.…
In the books Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, and The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, both stories feature different relationships that have their ups and downs, and are extremely prevalent themes. Relationships are a huge part of human life. In fact, it is thought that relationships are the things that keep us going every day. In the books Of Mice and Men and The Outsiders, relationships are a very important and prevalent theme that have a remarkable impact on the plot. The relationships that exist in both books are great examples of relationships in life, both how they seem on the outside, and how the relationships really are deep down.…
