Suspense 4th Paragraph
The setting and pacing in the 4th paragraph come together to create suspense because of the way that the words were put and the words that were in the paragraph. In the paragraph it moves at a slow pace but goes into great detail about how he moved through the mans room and what he did in there. When he moves “very, very slowly [inside the room]”(poe pg 1) it builds suspense because that paragraph moves at the pace that he does. Since the paragraph moves at a slow speed it builds suspense because you don't know what could happen next. Since he repeats words it also builds suspense because when he moves in side the room he repeats cautiously and he goes into great detail about what he did cautiously. Also there was irony in the text that lead

Edgar Allan Poe uses suspense in his story, “The Tell-Tale Heart” when the old man the narrator is trying to kill wakes up and does not go back to sleep. “I had my head in, and was about to open the lantern, when my thumb slipped upon the tin fastening, and the old man sprang up in the bed, crying out-“Who's there?” (Poe, 356). This tells you how he adds suspense because after this happened, they were just staying still for a while waiting for another sound to be made. Another use of suspense in the story is, “He was…

In the short story ¨The Tell-Tale Heart ¨ by Edgar Allan Poe, he uses many different techniques in his plot to get the readers on the edge of their seat. One way he creates suspense is by using repetition. He repeats certain phrases, such as ¨I moved it slowly- very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man's sleep¨. This creates tension for the audience because it creates a certain tension when imagining the scene in your mind.…

The author builds the story in a way that there's excitement on every page that you read. He uses a different way of writing with his words, he writes his words like he's crazy and with intention. In the story he has the urge to kill the old man because of the man's eye that he thinks is eval. He explains how he kills the man very precisely, also he tells you how he was at the door of the old man's room ready to kill him when the man wakes up, (that's one way that he builds his suspense) and yells “WHO'S THERE” then he stops and waits for the man to lay back down and go to sleep so he can move on with his crime and kill the man, now at this point in the story the suspense is built to the top and you're on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next then he tells you that he hears the heartbeat of…

One thing he carries in his bag of tricks for creating suspense is making time stand still, so to speak. His writing will appear to be dragging on forever and you’ll feel as if the part you’re waiting for will never happen. Poe creates this illusion by describing every little detail going on in the current setting. For example in, “The Cask of Amontillado,” as they went further down the caverns, Poe describes every little detail in…

Concerning the factors which produce suspense on the story level, it is clear that ‘The Bloody Chamber’ has quite a range of possible solutions. The reader himself wonders what could be hidden in the room. The reader elaborates theses on it. The described feelings of the young married girl help the reader to put himself in the girl’s place. The mixture of the description of the gruesome place and the girl’s feelings heighten the suspense. The final suspense whether she survives or not is quite dramatic of course, but the probability of her being saved is rather high. I guessed it would be the blind guy, though.…

Authors can create suspense in their story´s by using tools in their writing such as punctuation, imagery, hyperboles, and repetition. Like in the story ¨The Tell-Tale Heart¨ by Edgar Allan Poe when he uses words such as dreadfully, conceived, haunted, vulture, killed, cautiously, and scarcely. An example would be in the first half of the story when the narrator says ¨Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold¨. It is the certain dialogue that really gets you and makes you sometimes feel uncomfortable. The choice of words in a story really tells if it's suspenseful or not. Edgar Allan Poe really digs deep into his stories and captivates his readers in a scary way. In the story it says ¨They heard!-they suspected!-they knew!-they were making…

In this short story, Edger Allan Poe does a great job of describing the setting, even though it's not that descriptive but he uses a language to makes the readers think that it's happening this way. To support my statement, the author uses diction to make the readers scared: “black as pitch with thick darkness”. This makes the mood of the story creepy and scary. Also, Poe creates a mood of tension and anxiety “TRUE! —NERVOUS—VERY, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?”. Its narrator is fascinating because he confused the readers right off the bat that makes readers more interested in the short story. Another reason is because its short and easy to understand; that makes the readers focus on the short story and it's easy to explain the story. If I compare the “Cask of Amontillado” to the “Tale-Tale Heart” both narrators had a plan to kill their victim, both of their victims did not have the knowledge that there going to die, in both stories they inspect their targets, in both short stories the narrators make sure their bodies are hidden very well and that none could have found it not even 100 years later and they really cautioned with their…

“The Raven” is an excellent model of horror, whereas The Body Snatcher is not because of suspense build up, fear of the unknown and events are in order. “The Raven” is more suspenseful than “The Body Snatcher.” This is evident through the use of a flashback in “The Raven.” Poe writes “Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak of December. ” (Poe Line 7). By comparison in “The Body Snatcher” the only place it feels suspenseful is when the author writes, “It’s impossible that she can be dead, it’s impossible you should have got this body fairly.”(Stevenson Line 259) Poe keeps adding suspense throughout, In “The Raven”, while it only appears in Stevenson's tale once and the rest of the story…

Nia is my wife and I’s female Pitt Bull dog. She weighs about forty eight pounds, and stands approximately two feet high, and is twelve years old. Nia, has a unique fur coat, she is brindle and white. Nia’s, brindle fur coat is a black and brownish gold pattern. The right side of her face is solid white and the left side is a beautiful brindle. The two colors are evenly and perfectly split down the middle of her face, which makes her look like she has two very different faces. Along the right side of her face are tiny black freckles that outline her nose and they go all the way down and across her mouth. Her lips look like she has black lipstick on with specks of pink on them, and her nose is a solid dark black. She has deep dark brown eyes, which seem to have never lost that puppy dog look in them, and they are outlined in black like eyeliner, that match her lips. Nia’s, paws are solid white and the rest of her body is brindle all the way up to her ears, down her legs and throughout the length of her tail. She also has un-cropped ears that are long and floppy. When her ears are raised Nia, sometimes looks like Dumbo the elephant. She is missing her front two middle teeth on the top. My wife and I used to refer to them as Nia’s pinchers, because she used to always pinch us with them to get our attention. Today my wife has a red and white Ohio State Buckeye bandana tied around her neck, with a hot pink dog collar that reads princess, and is lined in black. As a youngster, Nia was a rambunctious dog that loved to jump and chew things up. In her older age, she has come to have a calm, laid back, and friendly demeanor to herself. We have had Nia, since she was four weeks old and she is a cherished member of our family. She is and has always been a very loving, beautiful, and unique…
