Sustainability means that something is long lasting and produces little or no environmental impact. It also means that by living a sustainable life, you are leaving the planet in the same state you found it; therefore that it does not affect future descendants in preventing them to access resources that may have a shortage or be extinct in.
To evaluate Bradley Stoke’s sustainability, I will be focussing in on the use and disposal of plastic bags, …show more content…
I also expect to find that the majority of Bradley Stoke residents recycle a lot as they receive free recycling bins which are collected often.
These three themes that I will be investigating – transport, plastic bags and recycling – link to global issues such as: pollution from the increase in cars, oil and fuel shortages and other lack of resources. An increase in cars on the road, like in Bradley Stoke, contributes to dangerous greenhouse gases (such as sulphur dioxide and carbon dioxide) being emitted, which can lead to global warming and acid rain. This damages wildlife and effects countries worldwide. It also increases the demand for finite sources such as petrol, contributing to the oil shortage …show more content…
This is resulting in a loss of already insufficient supplies of oil. In addition to this, plastic bags contribute drastically to litter; if they aren’t recycled, they take a long time to degrade, releasing toxic gases. This can result in habitats being ruined and lead to the death of wildlife. They can also cause wildlife to die of suffocation.
To prevent this, you could simply re-use, recycle and reduce the amount of plastic bags that you use.
Another way recycling can affect the sustainability of Earth, as well as just Bradley Stoke, is that it reduces the demand of certain products. This is because we do not have to keep producing new stuff and can use recycled materials to either make the same thing again, or make different products. This saves both money and energy (reducing pollution) used in factories to produce products and also means that we can preserve endangered
