Exercise Care
Do not disturb the surgical area today. Do NOT rinse vigorously or probe the area with any objects or your fingers. You may brush your teeth gently. DO NOT SMOKE for at least 48 hours since it is very detrimental to healing.
Bleeding

You will usually have a prescription for pain management and if you take the first pill before the anesthetic wears off, you will be better able to manage any discomfort.
Swelling
Swelling is a certainty and is a normal phase of healing. Swelling is most marked on the second or third day and will begin to reduce on the fourth or fifth day. You can minimize this by using a cold pack or ice bag applied firmly to the face or cheek adjacent to the surgical area. If you have been prescribed medication for the control of swelling, be sure to take it as directed. After 48 hours it is usually best to switch from ice to moist hear. Using moist heat is also beneficial to resolve bruising that sometimes may persist after the swelling.
Nausea
Nausea is not an uncommon event after surgery, and it is sometimes caused by medications. Usually the best cure is rest and time, but nausea may be reduced by preceding each pill with a small amount of soft food the taking the pill with a large volume of water.
