“Symbolism is no mere idle fancy or corrupt degeneration: it is inherent in the very texture of human life.” - Alfred North Whitehead. To symbolize is to represent much like the Cowboy Ethics principle ‘Ride for the Brand’. A brand is a symbol used to mark an object in order to claim it as owned property by the entity the brand is specified to. The knowledge of symbolism has been my north star for what has seemed an infinite amount of time. To me representation and responsibility are conjoined. I am responsible for how I represent my God, my family and myself.
My childhood Sundays have always been spent in a church except when arduous situations arose. I suppose it is due to my childhood experiences that I have a fierce loyalty to any subject associated with my belief system. I have come to recognize persons who are “Sunday …show more content…
My actions were set into motion as to not be a disgrace to the things I care about, but as I have continued through my life my actions have become my own. I may be sentimental, but I perceive honor, respect, duty, empathy and remorse as embodiments of character that go beyond words. I believe that the best of us encompass these characteristics. Our actions are witness to the essence of our soul. Samuel Johnson said, “The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good,” a quote that explains the importance of how we treat people. The way I behave, more than anyone else, signifies who and perhaps what I am. Not only is my behavior influential to the representation of myself but my unchecked subconscious. It is not enough to change the demeanor of myself if my thoughts continue to be pernicious in nature. I represent myself even unto myself and my God. No one may know what has transpired in my brain beside me but that guilty conscience I spoke of earlier will invade my
