Symbolism plays a major role in everyday life and literature. Symbols can represent a person life to even representing a store. Symbolism is the practice of representing things by symbols, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character. Symbolism is the representation of one thing for another using a person, object, or idea (“Symbolism”). An example of Symbolism would be Flowers they symbolize the universal of young life. Authors use Symbols to covey important ideas to readers. In story “Zero Hour” by Ray Bradburry, and the poems “Outside History” by Eavan Boland, and “When You Are Old” by William Butler Yeats all show human experience symbols.
In the story “Zero Hour” by Ray Bradburry uses one of the characters named mink to symbolize sneakiness. In the story, a loud Seven-year-old named Mink was the leader of a game called Invasion, where in every yard on the street children brought out knives and forks and pokers and old stovepipes to use in the game. The poem reads, “And nodding by the fire, take down this book” (line 2). The author symbolizes the book and memories in this piece of work, the book touches on the memories and special moments of the women life. The author writes, “And slowly read, and dream of the soft look” (line 3). The author speaks on the fact he is the one man who had loved her soul unconditionally as she grew old and the way she looked changed.
