always thought no man was ever too good enough for her. She grew old and fat and her father died, her house was starting to smell and decay. One day she found the love of her life and that man was homer Barron. She loved him so much that she didn’t want anybody else to have him and if she couldn’t have him nobody else can. When miss Emily died family and the town people visited her house. When they were looking around they went into Miss Emily’s bedroom and found the corpse of a man. They were thinking it might have been homer Barron and they also found a strand of gray hair. In a rose for Emily symbols are used a lot in the short story. Miss Emily symbolizes the old south she had a depilated mansion in the middle of the town that around her was demonstrating growth and changing with the times was the last remnant of the old south. Miss Emily also symbolizes stubbornness examples of her stubbornness are not letting herself to know the fact that she doesn’t have to pay taxes.
Homer baron is a representative of the Yankee attitudes towards the greisens and also towards the entire south. He also represents post civil war carpet baggers and in a larger sense he is the kind of man that works hard miss Emily met him when he was working with all the workers. Homer also results in death. Miss Emily would rather kill homer than allow him to leave her.
Tobe was Miss Emily’s Negro servant he symbolized slavery because back then a lot of the town people would just look at Negros as slaves and he was a servant so he was also treated as a slave.. Tobe also represented death he was very quiet and still it was just as if he was dead and she didn’t tell anybody that homer Barron died in miss Emily’s
bedroom.
The symbolism of the house was decay because Miss Emily’s house was left lifting its stubbornness and coquettish decay and her house was also dirty inside. Miss Emily’s mailbox from its house wasn’t appropriately fixed she didn’t want letters or towns people to keep charging her for the taxes because she thought she didn’t have to p[ay for taxes.
Miss Emily’s gray hair meant sexuality because since it was gray it was also a meaning of aging and of proof it was a female strand of hair. Her gray hair also meant death, because of her aging she was already getting older. They also found it near the corpse in her bedroom.
The lime arsenic was a symbol of death; Miss Emily house smelled bad that her neighbors complained about it every day .so the town’s people spread lime arsenic around her house. The town’s people didn’t know that the smell was from the dead body in her house they didn’t know they were covering the smell of death.
