Talia Vs. Perrault's The Sleeping Beauty In The Wood
Did you know that there are more than three different versions of your story Sun, Moon, and Talia? After your story came three other stories. The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood, Little Brier-Rose, and the Disney version. I think it is fascinating to look into all of these different variations. I’m not going to talk to you about all four variations just yours and The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood by Perrault. There are several similarities and differences between your story and Perrault’s story; the ones I will talk about are her sleeping reasons, cannibalism issues, and the relationship aspect. One aspect in the two stories is the reason for sleep. In your story, there was a prediction made about the lord’s daughter by the wise men and astrologers that she would incur great danger from a splinter of flax. In Perrault’s story, the king and queen had a christening party for the princess and invited all the kingdom’s fairies except one. The fairy that didn’t get invited was angered and decided to gift the princess with a curse. The curse was that the princess should have her hand pierced with the spindle and die of the wound. As a result of these predictions; …show more content…
Something I disliked about your story was the fact that the king raped Talia. That was not kid friendly whereas, Perrault’s story the princess awoke when the prince arrived in her room. In Perrault’s version, I liked how they kept their children a secret from the prince’s mother because it kept me on my feet wondering if she’d ever find out. One last thing that kept me on my feet in both stories was when the cook tricked the mother and queen into thinking he cooked the kids because I wanted to see if they would find out or not. Other than that, I thought both your stories were fun to

Insomnia began by first being referenced in the world’s oldest literary book, the Gilgamesh epic. In the book, the character, Gilgamesh, became mortal by making a transition from being constantly awake, to sleeplessness, and then to familiarity. In other ancient tales, sleeplessness and sleep played the difference in being immortal or mortal. In one ancient tale, the story of Chinese king Wu, the reason of his sleeping problems were because he never secured the heaven’s support. People back in the medieval time period in Europe, were not too worried about waking up in the middle of their sleep. During this period of time, having your sleep interrupted at night was a regular occurrence. The wrongdoers that were the reasoning of insomnia consisted of bedbugs, along with the fear of incendiarism, burglary, and political conspiracy.…

Some things that I feel could be improved is the story needs more description of the events for better visualization, and the writer or storyteller needs to be more confident in the “facts” of the story, telling it as truth. I have also chosen to remove the signals for laughter for (think laugh tracks on TV shows and how utterly irritating they are).…

Jane Yolen, author of Briar Rose, combines both fairytale and historical attributes in one work. Based on the old tale of Sleeping Beauty, Briar Rose is a fairy tale within a fairy tale however, the traditional ‘happily ever after’ notion does not apply. Through fairy tale elements of fantasy, recovery, escape and consolation; Yolen has been able to explore underlying themes in Briar Rose, including the brutality of human nature, courage and the triumph of human spirit over adversity, the ability to survive and endure, and love.…

In ELA, we read three of the 900 Cinderella stories and one poem. I liked “Ashenputtel” because it had some cool features of the story such as the background of the story, but what was surprising is that it had blood and gore in it. “Yeh-Shen” was not my favorite, but I did think her step-mom and sister deserved punishment because of how they treated her. Apparently they didn`t know the phrase “treat others the way you want to be treated”. In the “Algonquin Cinderella” the step-sisters should have been punished for the horrible things they did to her (the Algonquin Cinderella). The poem, I didn`t care for because the step-mother was a liar. She doesn’t know how Cinderella feels so she should step into Cinderella’s shoes.…

For the past several years, I have been a babysitter for a little girl by the name of Magnolia. She and I have developed a clockwork schedule of our time spent together. Four o'clock we play princesses, five o'clock we eat, six o'clock we play princesses again, and by eight o'clock I am reading a story to her while she drifts away dreaming of faraway kingdoms. My favorite part is always story time; when her little hands eagerly shove her now tattered copy of Cinderella into my own. I always suggest another story, perhaps the Velveteen Rabbit, or Rainbow Fish, but to her her bedtime story is not complete without a princess, a brave knight, and a happy ending. These once upon a time’s are all that dominate…

I believe the Perrault's version more realistic. But, for children, I couldn't see a children's story not having a happy ending. I think Perrault's version is more of an eye opener. It tells the children that if they come in contact with a big bad wolf (stranger), there will be no woodsman to save them. It is best to not talk to strangers and give them information about themselves or an incident like this could happen to them.…

Sleep is an extremely interesting phenomenon in which the mind almost completely departs from the usual realm of consciousness (Foulkes, 1999). Many theories have been proposed over the years as to why we need sleep. An essential part of sleep is the surreal world and narrative that is experienced during the state known as dreaming (Combs & Krippner, 1998).…

There was once a fair maiden named Cinderella. She lived with her stepmother; Lady Tremaine, and her two stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella. Unfortunately for Cinderella, she was always treated as a servant and a peasant at home. Due to her never socializing enough to actually have friends she was so desperate that she befriended mice. She was so selfless yet her family was the complete opposite. One morning, she was working on the floor with a rag and then there was a knock on the door. As she opened the big brown doors there was a short man with a black sack on his back filled with invitations, he handed Cinderella one of the invitations. She walked back inside and read the invitation out loud to the mice. It was an invitation to the royal ball! The damsel ran up the…

Whenever you read a book and then go watch the movie, most of the time they don’t follow the same events in the same order. Just like in the myth “Perseus” and the movie, Clash of the Titans, the event are not all the same and some of the causes of the events are not the same either. Different things happen in the movies that are not even close to some of the things in the myth. These differences can either make the story better or just make it less interesting.…

The fairy tale I chose was Rumpelstiltskin. The fairy tale is about a miller’s daughter whose father tells the king of the kingdom that she can spin gold. When the king heard this, he threw her in a room and tells her that if the room isn’t filled with gold from the straw, she will pay with her life. The miller’s daughter doesn’t have a clue on how to spin straw to gold so she sits on the floor hopeless and starts to cry. Then a little man walks in and asks her what is wrong. She tells him her situation and he offers to help but at a certain price. Her necklace. She agrees and he spins all the gold by morning and leaves. The king walks in and is pleased with all the gold. He takes her to another room and says the same thing as the night before but this room is bigger. Again the daughter has no idea on how to spin straw to gold so she starts crying. The little man walks in the room again. He tells her that he will spin it all for her ring. The daughter agrees and falls asleep while he works. He does his work and leaves again. The king comes in and is again pleased with the daughter’s work. He takes her to another room, twice as large as the others and tells her that if she is able to spin it to gold by morning, she will be queen. The king leaves and once again she starts crying. Again the little man returns and asks what the daughter will give him if he spins the straw. She says she has nothing left to give. The little man tells her that when she is queen, she must give him her first born baby. She agrees seeing that she has no other way out. The man does his work and leaves. The king comes and sees the work she has done as marries the daughter. She becomes queen and years pass. She has a baby but doesn’t remember the agreement she made with the little man. One day the little man returns and asks for the baby. The queen begs for him not to take her baby. The little man gave her one more chance. The little man told her that if she guessed his…
