Tamingway Burpo Story
At the age of four, most children have a great imagination. The type of imagination that when they tell stories, you can't even begin to believe them. Colton Burpo is a prime example of a child with a wonderful imagination, so everyone thinks. A trip to Heaven and back is not an everyday story you hear of, especially coming from a four year old. Although it may be hard to believe young Colton Burpo, this is not just another story made up in his significant imagination. Coming from a family that didn't have an extravagant amount of money, Colton Burpo was always a happy, sweet, and caring young boy, just like his father, Todd Burpo. Todd Burpo was their local preacher at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church. Sonja Burpo, Colton and his older sister, …show more content…

(Pg. 25) At this point, many x-rays, and CT scans were taken. After the CT scan was over, the technician did not take Todd and Sonja back to the waiting room, in fact, he took them to the isolated hallway where a few chairs were lined up against the wall. Both Sonja and Todd knew that something was wrong with their little boy. Five minutes into sitting in the hallway, a white-coated man emerged from the imaging lab. The radiologist had said that Colton has a ruptured appendix, and would be needing emergency surgery. As Colton began screaming and crying for his father to not let the doctors take him, Todd was very confused and upset with God. “Where are you? Is this how you treat your pastors?! Is it even worth it to serve you?.” (Pg. 39) That's when everything hit Todd. “We waited too long. I might never see my son alive again.” (Pg. 40) After ninety long minutes of being hurt and confused, a female nurse in purple scrubs, stepped into the waiting room. “Is Colton’s father here?” (Pg. 42) Todd stood up. The nurse had asked Todd to come back. Colton was out of surgery and they couldn't get him to calm down. He was screaming and crying for his father. Sonja and Todd were so relieved to still have their little boy with …show more content…

O’Holleran to fix me,” Colton said. “You need to pay him.” (Pg. 54) Even if Colton had found it in his heart to forgive the good doctor, his little proclamation he just had was weird to Sonja and Todd. This was only the beginning of Colten's little remarks about Jesus that left Sonja and Todd speechless. The family was headed to South Dakota to see their new nephew. On the way there, they had passed by the hospital and Todd joked with Colton. “Hey, Colton, if we turn here, we can go back to the hospital.” “Do you wanna go back to the hospital?” (Pg. 60) It was that conversation where Colton had said that he “went up out of” his body, that he had spoken with angels, and had sat in Jesus’ lap. Sonja and Todd knew Colton wasn't just making this up, because he was able to tell his parents what they were doing in another part of the hospital. Colton had brought up his father getting angry with Jesus, while Sonja had been praying and talking on the phone. Not even Sonja had seen Todd in that little room, having his meltdown with Jesus. At age four, little boys don't exactly come up and offer you long, detailed histories. Not only was young Colton telling his father that he had left his body, he was saying he had left the hospital. Trying to process this all through Todd’s mind was not easy. He questioned to himself, “did my son die and come back?” Clearly something had happened to Colton. He had proved that by telling his parents amazing little details that

On December 28, 2014; Rachel Melacon and Allen Coats gave birth to Olivia Coats. Unfortunately the doctor, who delivered her baby girl, by using forceps against the young couple’s wishes, caused unfixable injuries to the newborn. The couple puts blame for the death of their five-day old baby girl, Olivia Coats. However even though she requested to have a C- section, due to the size of the baby, Dr. George T. Backardjiev shut the idea down. Dr. Backardjiev told Rachel that it would leave a scar afterwards. He ended up using the forceps to deliver her baby girl. Dr. Backardjiev struggled with the forceps, “he even put his foot on the bed” to try and pull the baby out. “Dr. Backardjiev was turning and twisting, and she would never come out, he put the forceps one way and the other; when he touched the top and the side of the skull, we heard a pop, like clay cracking in pottery and heard her skull crush.” The medical staff told the couple their baby was alive; then Olivia was quickly transferred to “Children’s Memorial Harmann Hospital” in Houston Texas, it was at that hospital that they were informed that their daughter had suffered several fractures to her skull and spine; then on January 2nd Olivia Coats died. Angie coats told ABC News “we’re not mad at the hospital, this not their fault. It is one man’s fault, we only want justice for Olivia; we want the person responsible, which is the doctor. We don’t want the hospital being shunned.” The parents plan to sue Dr. Backardjiev for the death of their baby girl. The hospital administration and independent medical staff leadership are all committed in taking all necessary actions in understanding why this happened. The Houston Chronicle reports that the parents of Olivia Coats started a campaign to ban the use of forceps during delivery called “The Olivia Law.” The couple also started a fundraiser on Go Fund Me to raise awareness about the use of forceps explaining how damaging they can be, so far the…

I then realized the look on the doctor’s face and that in it spoke the words that were unspoken. She started explaining to us that the mother was only 22 ½ weeks along and that she was going into premature labor. We had a decision to make -we could either let her naturally go into labor with the baby being breech (this will cause a head catch) which lessens the chance of survival or do an emergency C- section. For the first time in my life I had no way of fixing this. This was out of my hands and into the hands of God. I felt alone, desperate and frightened. I just kept thinking this wasn’t supposed to happen to me. I’m a good person! I go to church; I help people in need, and I greet people with a smile to brighten their day. So the question kept popping in mind why did this happen to me?…

It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. On September 8th 1990, it was a hot sunny day in the city of Cali, Colombia. Temperature around 88°F with very low humidity, normal for that time of year, since the summer was about to begin. A sky full of altocumulus clouds cooled the estimated population of about 1.7 million people ("1990 population estimate for Cali, Colombia."). Among that population there was my mother. Already late for her gynecology appointment, inconveniently causes by a car accident, she would shortly find out when I would be entering the world. The accident turned a 20-minute drive in a 45-minute drive. Rushing into the clinic, as the doctor’s assistant was calling her name, she rapidly was taken to the back to speak with the provider. When the doctor came into the room he calmly said, “I have good news, and bad news”. My mom’s heart already racing she decided to go with the bad news first. “The probability of being a complicated birth is pretty high, which means the surgical team will have to perform a cesarean section instead of a vaginal birth”. My mother relived thinking it would be something much worse she asked the doctor to go ahead with the good news. “The baby will probably be arriving today”. My mom became frantic, “that’s the good news? They might as well both have been bad! My mother panicked, she had nothing ready for the birth, since her first child was not due for another 10 days. Her hormone levels raging at an all time sky high, she shortly began to cry. The doctor and his staff hugged her and reassured her that everything was going to be ok. They quickly rushed her to the hospital where they would have all the equipment in the event that there were any major complications. Once she was all settled in, the operating room staff started to prepare for the birth around 3:15 P.M. The staff thought I was ready to come out, however I took another three hours to make my grand appearance. At 6:23 PM I arrived spreading my arms and legs with a…

Nancy Shaw was an 18-year-old in the seventeenth week of her first pregnancy when she was examined by ultrasound at health department clinic. That ultrasound revealed that her fetus had extreme and symmetrical shortening of the limbs. The clinic referred Ms. Shaw to the prenatal diagnosis center of a public hospital. There, Ms. Shaw discussed possible causes of the abnormalities with a genetic counselor. Following that discussion, Ms. Shaw decided to terminate the pregnancy. At that time, amniotic fluid was drawn for analysis. A medical student, John Dutchman, who was present with the attending physician, Dr. Lowland, before and after the termination was surprised to hear the attending physician tell Ms. Shaw that the fetus had been female. Mr. Dutchman had not realized that a woman undergoing an abortion would want this kind of information. The attending physician told him that Ms. Shaw had specifically asked for this information because she wanted to name the baby and have a short memorial service for her, as if she had died naturally. Ms. Shaw chose the name Elizabeth for her child.…

This took what felt like an eternity, suddenly the doctor became somewhat evasive, almost secretive. I was…
