While Milton Friedman asserted in his famous essay that “the social responsibility of a business is to increase profits,” it can be argued that companies also have higher moral responsibilities. The question in each ethical dilemma is, “To whom do we have a moral responsibility?”…

I chose to critique the movie “Cinderella”. The reason I chose this movie is because I have a three year old who always watches Disney princess movies. Cinderella has a wicked step mother and two evil step sisters. Her step mother and step sisters are always bossing her around; telling her to do their laundry, clean all the dishes scrub the floors and make the meals. Cinderella has to be at their beckon call; she never has time for herself. In this fairy tale she has a fairy godmother, the animals who she talks to and of course her prince charming. Cinderella’s fairy tale wouldn’t come true if she didn’t get her happily ever after and marry the prince.…

Alex McAdams was offered to join the Board of directors of Consolidated Mines International Inc. CMI’s revenue for 2004 was approximateley $4.5 billion dollars and it employs about 25,000 people worldwide. It operates mines located in Central America and northern South America. In deciding whether to accept the board seat Alex needs to consider allegations of questionable business practices. Also, political unrest in several of the Latin American countries has pushed CMI to pay paramilitary organization United Peoples Liberation Front “security services” payments. If payments are not made it could result in harm to personnel and/or property. The ethical dilemma is if Alex, as a member of the board will continue to authorize these payments, or stop all future payments, or shut down the mines.…

To see a scorned, beaten, and crucified man lying dead in the arms of his mother is an image, which can inspire overwhelming emotions within the heart of an observer. Yet, for the longest time I've had such difficulty looking at Michelangelo's Pieta or any piece of art in this way. To me, art has never been about expressing oneself or conveying a message to others, but simply creating an image for the sake of beauty and perfection.…

My family thinks that my pizza is the best. They like it better than any other kind. My son and I had decided that I would make pizza for my husband for Father's Day this year. However, it ended up being for the whole family. That is my daughter's, their husband's, their husband's mother (two of my daughter's are married to two brothers), their children, and my son. That was for twelve people, which meant that I was going to need four pizzas. First, I needed to go to the store. I need to buy two boxes of Bisquick, four pounds of hamburger and four pounds of Italian sausage, four cans of large pitted olives; four cans of chunked pineapple packed in its own juice, four containers of sliced mushrooms, three, two pound blocks of cheddar cheese, and two, two pound blocks of mozzarella cheese. In addition, let us not forget the two gallons of milk to wash it all down.…

Many people love to converse on the subject of religion and how their religion became what it is today. Buddha, Confucious, and Plato were all three very well aspired men who believed in similar but at the same time, different practices. All three lived around the same time period, with a few years separating Buddha and Confucious from Plato. Buddha encouraged spirituality and to enjoy the world as it is. Confucious pushed for humanism and that whatever a person does to another, may it be good or bad, while eventually return to them in some shape or form. As for Plato, he believed in expanding the ideas of logic and rationalization. All three teachings were very similar in certain ways, and yet very different and unique in other ways.…
