For this concert report, I viewed and listened to the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 as listed on the syllabus. The concerto is composed of three movements, Allegro non troppo e molto maestoso, Adantino semplice, and Allegro con fuoco. The entire piece was quite interesting, being the most unique sounding of the concerts I have listened to this semester. One characteristic that sets this concert apart is the piano, which was not featured prominently in any of the other concerts I attended. The style of emotional expression in this piece as one was also unique, often leading through a large range of emotions exceedingly quickly at some points. This movement evokes a sort of exited feeling throughout. There is also a very distinct theme repeated after each time the piano plays, however the piano still seems to vary its theme throughout the movement with light repetition. This movement has a much brighter feel compared to the previous movements, albeit still with a relatively rushed tone. It also evokes the image of a rushed fanfare or celebration to me because of the speed the piano is played alongside the orchestra. This performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 was respectable overall, however it felt very rushed to me. The first movement in this piece was very intense both in speed and in emotion, while the second movement went on to resolve some of the tension from the first movement in a relatively short time span. The final movement resolved the piece with its celebratory sound and feel. Overall the concerto was very interesting, unique, and definitely worth a
