The comment of ‘Team Training in China: Testing and Applying the Theory of Cooperation and Competition’
The article is mainly about the theory of cooperation and competition that might cause different result in teamwork. The main points of the study are as follows:
1. In cooperation, people conclude that their goal achievements are positively correlated. However, in competition, people believe that their goal achievements are negatively correlated. So in cooperation person in the team can reach their goals if and if the others also reach their goal, but in competition they are less likely achieve their goals if others reach their goals already.
2. Constructive controversy is capable of helping teams to solve problems and strengthening confidence, creativity and productivity of teams. And constructive controversy provides a foundation to build productive teamwork in organizations.
3. People in China have noted that they cannot keep avoiding conflict, if they have goals, which are cooperative, they will prefer to discuss their opposing views to strengthen productivity of teams. Although the theory origins in the West, has indicated it also applicable to analyzing teamwork in China.
Here are my individual viewpoints:
The whole analysis has strong contrast. Using structural equation to contrast. Doing a detailed comparison on cooperation and competition. Meanwhile, in this article the writer analyzes the cultural differences between Chinese and Western societies in teamwork.
The article about theory of cooperation and competition based upon experiment and the result of the study has actual operation. If team members have their relative goals, they will strive for their goals. They communicate with each other to share their different views and promote members’ mutual trust. People in cooperative team realized that other’s attainment helps them and they can be successful together. Consequently, people want other members in
