Technological Advancements Compared To World War One
People in this world have been creating, inventing, and advancing since the beginning of time. Examples of this would be the way humans have created new medicines, treatments, and vaccines that prevent or treat disease. Not all advancements have to do with medicine though, many ways that the human race has moved forward into a more modern age would be the way they have used their knowledge to create new weaponry such as guns, bombs, and airplanes. As well as technology such as sonars and radars. Of course the advancements of weaponry wouldn’t be there without the technology to make these wonderful creations. Although advancements in technology and weaponry can be increasingly helpful, they can also be harmful and even a decent amount of both. …show more content…
These weaponry advancements included guns, airplanes, and the very first atomic bomb. Guns are an essential part of war and during World War Two the guns had greatly improved compared to World War One. These guns were more powerful as well as more accurate than they used to be. Some of the main guns that were used on the American frontline would be Browning Automatic Rifle, machine guns, submachine guns, the Colt M1911, and the Carbine Rifle. Not only were these guns more efficient than their previous models, they were also lighter and easier to handle. Another main gun that played a sizable amount in the war was the anti-tank rifle. The anti-tank rifle was used by the Americans and the Germans. These rifles were some of the first grenade launchers and were built and used to take out tanks that were approaching. Although the anti-tank rifles were useful they had their flaws. They were often heavy and inaccurate and weren’t meant for long range; when used for long range the accuracy decreased and would often miss. Another advancement that was essential to a decent portion of World War Two was the airplanes. Several new airplanes were designed for the war and were a magnificent improvement compared to the planes of World War One. These new and improved planes included bombers, one of the most well known bomber planes being the

World War I used machine guns and hand grenades heavily, also taking advantage of the aircraft, such as aeroplanes, to bomb land/fields. They also took advantage of bullets called "parachute star-shell." "A parachute star-shell opens out. The ground lies stark in the pale light, and then the darkness shuts down again blacker than ever" (Remarque 209). Another weapon used against enemies was poisonous gas. This poisonous gas could temporary blind soldiers lying in the trenches, and in high doses, permanently blind those soldiers. "At night they send over gas. We expect the attack to follow and lie with our masks on, ready to tear them off as soon as the first shadow appears" (Remarque 104). With such high ranked artillery, attacking and killing the enemy was much easier than the past…

New Technologies created many more advantages for soldiers fighting in World War 1. Many new technologies were introduced to warfare including airplanes, poisonous gasses, automatic rifles, tanks, and artillery. Automatic weapons were one of the largest step-ups from the single fire rifle, which is probably a reason why trench warfare was named the bloody stalemate because soldiers could go fire multiple shots at soldiers in trenches without having to reload. This made it easier to reload and allowed soldiers to not have to stop in the middle of battle and reload ever time they shot. Also armored tanks were starting to be produced by allied and central powers. Although airplanes were still not as important as ground-warfare because technologies were not as developed yet so not as useful until World War 2. These innovations were a huge modernization to more deadly warfare in WW1.…

Many new inventions were created by the English from 1939-1945 including radar, penicillin, Bombe Machine, and of course the atomic bomb. Radar in WW2 was a revolutionary piece of technology, it was even said that it may have won the war for the Allies (“British Technology,” n.d.). In World War 2 whichever side spotted the first airplane, submarine, or ship was usually the side that won the battle. Radar allowed the Allies to “see” enemies coming from hundreds of miles away, even at night (ScienCentral, n.d.). This gave them an unparalleled strategic…

During WWI there were many new guns that improved armies drastically. These new guns were one of the main killers in the war and accounted for many thousands of deaths. The first machine guns had first been used in the American Civil War (1861 to 1865) and the creator was Richard Gatling (Gatling gun). However, tactics from this war to 1914 had not changed to fit in with this new weapon. Machine guns could shoot hundreds of rounds of bullets a minute and the standard military tactic of World War One was the infantry charge. Casualties were huge. With the new guns such as German Maxim, Italian Fiat-Revelli, French Hotchkiss, Austro-Hungarian Schwartzlose, Russian Maxim and...Est. At the end of WORLD WAR 1 it was clear for all to see that this war had been the most deadly war in history. This was primarily due to the use of nineteenth-century military tactics with twentieth-century technology. At the beginning of the war, there was still the tradition to have cavalry as the main branch of the military service, and the commanders such as Sir Douglas Haig believed this war would be like the last big European fight, the Franco-Prussian War. Which had been fought in the same way that the Napoleonic wars of the early nineteenth century were, where it was taught to commanders that the offense army could still outmanoeuvre an enemy on the defence.…

Hi, Kaitlyn, I liked your post, it is well written. I believe you have some good points about if the technology existed in WWII the people would know what is going on and what role their government is playing in that. Maybe people would have changed what was happening through protesting against it more promptly. I agree with you on the point that people don't like change and they try to resist it as much as…

What exactly is technology anyway? According to Webster it is defined as the application of science. The E.S.P, to industrial or commercial objectives;it is the body of knowlege available to a civilization that is in use. But let us consider after all, if this technology, this application of science, this knowlege, this E.S.P.to industrial objective is our friend, or could it very well be our worst nightmare with the worst yet to come? Many people have died from electricution and the executioner - electrical appliances. Technology in transportation is portrayed as an inspiration of great things to come, but what about the tragedies? Deaths from auto accidents far exceed the death tolls in history 's most tragic wars. In air travel hundreds of lives may be taken by a single accident. Modern medicine, too has its closet full of skeletons even though it has saved many of lives. But what about the exchange one must accept when under going cancer treatment?…

Despite the fact that Science has helped us, the advances of technology has increased the destructive capacity of conflict by enabling many countries to create horrifying weapons of mass destruction that have raised numerous ethical questions. Also, it is a constant threat to humanity with the danger that never ceases to end as can be seen by the destruction of the First and Second World War with their unprecedented number of deaths. The atomic bomb, for example, with the destruction it has caused and affected the Japanese many years after and, it was created about 70 years ago. In the 21st century, we have weapons that can make the atomic bomb look like a firecracker. The development of these weapons of mass destruction has raised the threat of total global destruction. Science has produced the means of more suffering in an almost infinite way, which surely outweighs the benefits towards healing and helping the sick and needy. As much as I would like to disagree, as long as these weapons exist; Science will always be a threat to humanity.…
