They speak of old but new nature of science and technology. They try to forget about all the great things that were in the Unmentionable Times. The events in anthem establish a slow progress of science and technology in totalitarian societies because everyone was told they must be equal, cannot be smart, and cannot express themselves. With anthem being technologically primitive it will never be able to improve the nature of science and technology. The technological progress in anthem is moving slowly but surely. It hasn't moved since before the Unmentionable Times for reasons like everyone has to be equal. According to the quote “We have given you a name in our thoughts, Liberty 5-3000”(55). The following quote shows that people in anthem are not even allowed to pick there own name. Without letting the people to express themselves, the technology and science will never be able to change or improve because people won't be able to claim and think of great ideas to change the technology.
